War Informative Speech
It is one of the most troubling times in Bernicia and everything is turning upside down. The king has just been killed and the tribe of Bernicia along with all of the surrounding tribes are in chaos. I, a mother of six, have became a widow because my husband has been killed in war, which is common during these times. Since most of the men in the tribe were murdered, the general in our tribe drafted some of the women to be shield maidens and I was one of the ones that was drafted. I am now having to teach my oldest daughter to care for the rest of my children because I have to fight in the war that is ahead. Today has been three days since my husband was killed. Our tribe leader has decided to move what is left of our village Eastward and the …show more content…
Since we have fought the vikings many times before, our veteran soldiers are very aware of how the war will be. He spoke of a particular viking whose name is unknown who towers above all other viking warriors. He is said to be as tall as the trees and as broad as three men combined. No one has ever came close to killing this viking except my father, Noty, who almost defeated this viking warrior on our adventure to our current location. This particular viking raided our village years ago, stole all of our livestock, and killed six of our guardsmen. There is a prophecy taught by the elders that speaks of an uncommon soldier that will defeat a great opponent and lead the tribe of Bernicia to conquer many lands and my dear friend Alyieb believes that I am the chosen one. I am extremely frightened and unsure that I will survive this battle which will arrive tomorrow. As I pack my things, I explain to my children that I may not survive and in the case that I descend to the underworld, they will live with Alyieb. I did not sleep that night. The next morning, the whole village packed their things and we were off to meet our opponent. I walked with Alyieb and my …show more content…
I slashed the soldier time after time. Gashing his body multiple times, but it seemed to not affect him. I was fatigued and about to give up when I turned to see Alyieb coming behind me. He swung at the giants leg and in an instant he fell to the ground. In shock, I looked around to see a field covered with viking blood. I realized we had won the war and with all of my fellow fighters watching, I stabbed my sword straight through the heart of the enormous viking soldier. The next thing I remember is sitting on top of a crowd of my people, along with Alyieb. They were cheering and carried us all the way to our destination. As I settled my children into our new hut, the general approached Alyieb and I and notified us that we were chosen as the new King and Queen of Bernicia. It has been a few months now and I am happily married to King Alyieb and we have 5 beautiful kids, along with my own. Everything was wonderful until I got a letter from a viking soldier. It was a threat from the son of the giant viking soldier that I killed, stating that he would return with revengeful intentions. It seems that another war is on its

In Beowulf, the bloodthirsty monster Grendel terrorizes the Danish mead hall, Heorot. It seems that no warrior in Denmark can challenge the beast, and the Danes continue to suffer greatly. Word of this plight spreads, and it soon reaches a Geatish warrior named Beowulf. Beowulf is so confident in his own strength and skill that he, without hesitation, decides he will sail to Denmark to battle Grendel. As a warrior, Beowulf is inclined to take the challenge and prove his bravery and might. To deny the challenge would be shameful and his heroic reputation would be forever tarnished. King Hrothgar of Denmark venerates Beowulf when he arrives for coming to the aid of the Danes. Yet Unferth, a Danish warrior, feels his own reputation is threatened by Beowulf's presence. In an attempt to uphold his own appearance and defend his own fame, Unferth disparages Beowulf's tails of greatness. Beowulf naturally defends his reputation. "However it was my luck to kill, sword in hand, nine sea-monsters. I cannot remember hearing of a harder battle by night anywhere in the world, or of anybody in worse danger at sea than I was."(Beowulf, p.40) Beowulf goes on to claim, "It is a fact that Grendel would never have done such damage to your kind, nor wreaked such havoc in Heorot, if you had the fighting spirit with which you credit yourself."(Beowulf, p.40) It is evident, through this verbal battle, that Beowulf is asserting his own power while portraying the shamefulness of Unferth. They will feud to prove their dominance, as Beowulf does to Unferth.…

Today was the day I lost my son and the great Beowulf is to blame. I feel it. I feel the emptiness that comes when a mother loses her child. I hear my son calling out for me, wishing I was there to help. I feel the broken bones and the screams that my child, my sweet baby boy, made while Beowulf tore him from this world. I feel the anger, and the ferocity of a mother bear, but i have failed to protect my cub. I have traveled to the surface, far from the safety and comfort of my cave beneath the water, to kill beowulf. I have captured him and i will kill him. His puny blade does no damage to me, for i am too strong for him. I am winning, the life slowly draining from Beowulf’s body, until i remember my greatest weakness; I am the only one who…

    Grendel Narrative

I will begin my story from the point of my arrival in Denmark when my initial engagement takes place: I began my terror long ago when I sat in the darkness yelling and growling in pain of the happiness and joyousness coming from Hrothgar and his men yet, they still challenge me, after seven years they still celebrate and boast and laugh with their music. I, Grendel, through my great strength and immunity from the weapons of humanity, vow to plague the mead hall. I stayed in the darkness consumed with impatience, bitterness, and jealousy of listening to loud, joyous music coming from the hall; songs of rejoice make my hands scratch and claw at the top of my head. The king of Denmark shall flee in terror as my wrath is cast upon the people of the mead hall. After the laughter and the celebration were finished that night I came out of hiding from the marsh hidden in the darkness. I attacked from the front of the hall, destroying all in my path and devouring all those who stand in my way. The pathetic humans tried without success to prevent my massacre. Their weapons are primitive, worthless against my flesh. I hurled myself towards the crowds, devouring the humans who stood in my way. I hold my brutal and violent acts, those of jealousy and envy; just as the acts of my descendant Cain, in the highest regard as a force of sheer and utter destruction. I will prevail, of this I am sure.…
