Walt Disney: ADHD And Dyslexia

Mr. Disney was a talented man, there is no denying that. But who knew that this man had a secret? Walt Disney had a disability, but not just one, he had two. Those two were ADHD and dyslexia. Walt had attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It is a problem with not being able to focus, being overactive, not being able to control behavior, or a combination of the three (NIH). Most people with ADHD think it will hold them back, but truthfully they can get a handful of exquisite traits (Krans). People with ADHD can be artistic, creative, intuitive, empathetic, visionary, inventive, sensitive, original, loving, and exuberant (Joe). People with the symptoms of ADHD have three primary symptoms, not being able to pay attention, hyperactivity,
Mr. Disney was a big dreamer, and even when his grades were low he would still attend a night class for artists. Walt decided school was not for him and decided to try to join the army. When, Walt was told he was to young to join the army, he decided to join the Red Cross instead (Mosaic). Joining things like the Red Cross helped him overcome his disability by keeping his mind off of it (NIH). He did not get to be so successful by himself, Walt had people who believed in him and encouraged him along the way. Walt would draw pictures of haircuts to get himself free haircuts (Stewart 16). He attended art classes at the Chicago Academy to get inspiration (19). While being the love of his life, she also contributed to his inspiration. Her name was Lillian Bounds and they were married on July 13, 1925 (43). Walt brought attention to his disability by showing he could overcome it and be prosperous. People with ADHD are 300% more likely to start their own business and Walt did just that (Joe). Even though, he had to retake a grade, he still pushed through. Walt showed many people all around the world that even when he dropped out of high school, he was still bursting at the seams with success
