WRTG 101 Reflection
WRTG 101, Introduction to Writing is a requirement for a Business Administration degree. This is the not the only reason why I was interested in taking Writing 101. The other reason was to develop an understanding the academic purpose of writing, developing a strategy for writing, understanding different types of essays and how to appeal to the reader. Developing these skills will help me though out my college career and my future career in my chosen field. Throughout this course, I worked on these skills and went from a below average writer to an above average writer by learning and developing a writing skillset that can complete any assignment. Understanding the purpose of an academic purpose of writing can help understand the main purpose of the paper. Academic writing is an analysis on a topic that breaks down the idea to increase the understanding of the idea. There are four basic categories of academic writing. These categories are the following: summarize, analyze, …show more content…
In Writing 101, I learned there are different ways to develop a strategy to complete an essay. Two strategies that I learned about and use are the brainstorming and outlining strategies. The brainstorming strategy helps by picking a topic, understanding the topic, focusing on the topic and developing an approach on the topic. This will keep the thoughts organized and narrow down the approach to the paper. Another strategy that I use is the outlining technique. The outlining technique takes all the information that will be included in the paper and organizes the information in order. This helps the paper hit key points by keep the paper flowing in an orderly manner. By using the brainstorming and outlining strategy, I can create an idea, narrow down the topic and focus on a specific topic through brainstorming, as well as effectively cover my key points throughout my paper by using the outlining

Academic writing is a form of writing that I am familiar with and the differences between academic writing and technical writing are very important. Both styles of writing have more than one type. The purposes and the audiences are different in these two styles of writing. Academic purposes are presenting your knowledge about certain things, giving your opinion about something you have studied, and to give your point of view. Technical writing’s purpose can be used to teach a person how to use a product, describe how to do someone’s job in their absence, and to describe how a company conduct’s its business.…

These skills are an important part of my analytical forecasting role, but are also critical to everyday communication, taking the form of e-mails, reports, evaluations, standard operating procedures, and instructions. Completing ENG 101 through Excelsior college, allowed me to expand my written ability to encompass more academic writing skills. Writing, something that has never befriended me, will always be an obstacle in my life. For me, it’s difficult to just sit down at a table and write something interesting and creative. I try to do so every time I am assigned a essay, and sometimes it turns out to be successful, but most of the time it is unsuccessful. Every time I am given a written assignment, I go through the same routine: I sit at the table and stare at my computer with my fingers on the keyboard. I have noticed that I come up with a lot of ideas, but I focus mainly on how to structure them while writing. In three articles written by Anna Lomott, Marie Foley and Donald M. Murray, they all discuss different strategies on how to draft, structure and revise an essay. They all have taught me a better way on how to make my writing strategy more successful in college than it was before.…
