Hello city of Sparksville, I know you are all wondering what is going to be done about the outsourcing of jobs from the area. Without those jobs to help with the economy, the townspeople are suffering. That is why we have decided to look into some opportunities for Sparksville. Those opportunities include bringing a warehouse distributor business, a hybrid car business or an oil refinery to help the citizens of Sparksville with employment issues. Each of these options have effects on the townspeople, the environment, and the economy. Each of the businesses would have an impact on water and air pollution, which impacts the health of the residents, as well as the surrounding environment. The warehouse company would bring in more truck traffic and emissions to Sparksville. Emissions are a nonpoint source of pollution into the air, and also leads to the water from the acid rain from the effects of the emissions. Although the warehouse is small in nature, it would still have an effect on the water pollution because of sewage. Sewage would be a point source pollutant because it is coming from one particular area, similar to the car company. The hybrid car manufacturing company would also lead to more air pollution because of the trucks or train that would bring in parts, as well as emissions from the added traffic. The traffic would be a nonpoint source pollutant, similar to warehouse truck emissions, but even more so from the added traffic, and also related to how the traffic would be with the oil refinery. The car company is also a larger company that would have to deal with waste on their own, which would be a point source of pollution into the water, which also works similarly to the oil refinery. Although the oil refinery will have regular waste, that waste may also include chemical waste from the oil that is entered into the water system. Overall, each of the

In today’s society there is much pollution that can cause an individual to become very sick or death can occur from the many atmospheric issues such as ozone depletion in our society. There are many things that contribute to ozone depletion in our atmosphere as well as indoor pollution such as radon which can cause certain cancers and certain deaths. There is also a lot of indoor air pollution which can cause the same issues to an individual’s health. The indoor air pollution I will explain is radon can affect anyone in their homes by only inhaling or ingesting radon can harm an individual’s body. I will explain these two pollutions such as…

Welcome, as you may know, I am the new elected mayor of Sparksville, Mayor Scarborough. The local high-tech manufacturing company has recently moved their manufacturing operations to South Korea. This has caused some of Sparksville’s citizens to lose their job. Right now the highest priority on my list is to bring more jobs to the city while keeping the air as clean as possible. To bring in new jobs, three completely different industries have proposed a plan to bring in new jobs. All of the companies have been recommended by the state department of economic development. The three different industries were a warehouse distribution center, a car manufacturing plant, and an oil refinery.…

Many Meteorological phenomena have been identified as being directly hazardous to aircraft in flight. This report focuses on two of these: Microbursts and Aircraft Icing. The first being a localised wind shear event caused by rapid cooling and descent of a column of air, the second being the build-up of ice on an aircraft as it flies through certain conditions.…

After reviewing figure 4-10 presented in chapter 4 of Environmental Science, it is easy to recognize the different trophic levels. Each trophic level shows how energy and biomass flow through a food chain however it is eventually lost as heat. These levels consist of: biomass of producers, those consumed, and those not consumed. The first trophic level has the producers which graze the food chain, grazers consist of the second level, then carnivores feed on the second level and continues on.…

For several years, we have been aware of the harms we produce to the environment, and yet we keep on creating them. Some people are more familiar than others about these harms. However, it seems as if there is no concern since change is happening slowly. Around the globe similar harms exist. Some are even more advanced in some places. We can clearly see the consequences of these harms. They are drastically disturbing our environment. The sufferers from these events are plant and human life, including other living species, and non-living objects. To better describe these harms, we refer to them as issues. They are issues we face daily one way or another. Let us for instance examine the atmospheric issues of acid deposition. This is a major issue with our environment, it is also known as acid rain, and first appeared after the industrial revolution. We can consider this to be an outdoor issue, since the process is completed outside, and the effects seem to take place outside as well. Nevertheless, we must not forget that not only do we face atmospheric issues, but indoor issues, too. Indoor air pollutants are serious hazards people deal with daily. One indoor air pollutant issue is the radioactive gas, radon. In 1991, the average U.S. home had a radon level of 1.3 picocuries per liter; this is three times higher than the level outside the house (Radon, 2012). Similar to other issues, these two are caused by either natural or human forces, and have awful effects on humans. Thinking optimistically, there are ways we can soften the effects from these issues, and possibly even eliminate them from existence. Taking care of one’s health should be the first priority. To accomplish this, we should consider learning about the issues we face whether within our atmosphere or inside our homes. The best approach to a problem is a prepared approach.…

Particulate Matter (PM) or fine particles, are tiny subdivisions of solid or liquid matter suspended in a gas or liquid. Particle pollution is made up of a number of components, including acids (such as nitrates and sulfates), organic chemicals, metals, and soil or dust particles. Some particulates occur naturally, originating from volcanoes, dust storms, forest and grassland fires, living vegetation, and sea spray. Human activities, such as the burning of fossil fuels in vehicles, power plants and various industrial processes also generate significant amounts of aerosols. Averaged over the globe, anthropogenic aerosols currently account for about 10 percent of the total amount of aerosols in our atmosphere.…

Air pollution is extremely bad in urban areas. Smug is an air pollution that causes serious health problem in urban areas. Acid rain (caused by airborne sulfur from burning coal and can be transported into rain droplets) does damage to the following: plants, buildings, and animals. There are different air pollutants, some visible and some that are not visible. The most obvious form of pollution is smog hanging over cities. Air pollutants are divided into two categories, primary and secondary. The most important primaries would be carbon oxides, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxides, particular matter, and hydrocarbons. Due to the ozone and sulfur trioxide being formed from chemical reactions they are in the category secondary. Air pollution can make for poor air quality. The manmade air pollutants are doing the worse harm to our environment, because it is changing atmosphere and lets in more radiation from the sun. The pollution is causing global warming because the pollution is damaging our ozone layer. Manmade pollution is releasing more greenhouse gasses to the earth’s atmosphere and traps the heat…
