POST LAB QUESTIONS

1. Explain how the ecosystem was affected by the missing species for each round of the demonstration.

a. Round 1 = Without humans then all progress cease to exist and everything will go in reverse. Humans run pretty much everything and if we just eliminated humans then only nature exists.
b. Round 2 = Speaking just for this lab, without flowers then the bees will lose a vital food source as they collect nectar and pollen.
c. Round 3 = Again speaking for this lab, the bees cannot pollinate from the flowers or trees.
d. Round 4 = N/A

2. Provide one action we as humans engage in that leads to the extinction of each of these components.

Action affecting Lichens =
Action affecting Trees = We are consistently chopping down trees to build new infrastructure without growing them back. I believe we will eventually run out of trees and have to use another main source for oxygen.
Action affecting Flowers = Same thing as with trees, we build on land which requires us to clear the area which includes flowers.
Action affecting Bees = As stated above, we clear land to remove flowers which removes a main food source for bees when they pollinate. Without a food source, they either need to adapt or go extinct.

3. Provide three specific actions that humans can take to minimize our impact on the ecosystem and ensure the survival of lichens, trees, flowers, and bees.

Action 1 = Reduce pollution as said many times by experts but nothing is really being done.
Action 2 = Put a plan to use in reducing pollution. There are fossil fuels and we can still plant trees and flowers.
Action 3 = Spread this plan and put it to use. People are doing small things like recycling but not enough are doing this. I hardly see proper recycling and there is nothing to

    Bee Population

In assignment one I wrote about how pollinating bee populations were declining around the world and the solutions that can prevent this from happening. Addressing this issue can be very difficult. Not only are humans causing this problem but the bee population has a disease that is destroying the colonies. Currently there really isn’t a policy in place to regulate the problem but there are informal efforts that are being put into place by the federal government and other agencies. These efforts include providing millions of dollars for research to find a solution for the disease, restoring acres of land for habitat and increasing studies on the use of pesticides. I feel that most people…

    Honey Bees

    • 844 Words

Honey bees’ amazing capability to pollinate is tagged with major benefits. The perseverance of the keystone species balances the critical ecological relationship. As a species alone, bees are responsible for pollinating ⅙ of the flowering plant species. Agriculturally, they provide about 400 types of plants (Tucker, 2014). These plants are heavily relied on by a variety of organisms. Without bees then the amount of food readily available will plummet, taking many species of plants and animals to their…

Let's face it, we could not exist as we do if there were no trees. A mature leafy tree produces as much oxygen in a season as 10 people inhale in a year. What many people don't realize is the forest also acts as a giant filter that cleans the air we breath.…
