Vulcan Quarry Trip

The trip that I completed this quarter was the Vulcan Quarry Trip. This trip was not my favorite trip, but I did enjoy it. When we were there we got to go down into the quarry, look at different fossilized rocks, and take a nature walk. We got to see the fault and the different layers of rock in the quarry. A cool part of the trip was we saw this butterfly shower that washed off the pollen from butterfly's’ wings. Something that I found very interesting during this trip was the rock faults.
During this field trip rock fault lines really caught my eye, I thought it was cool that you could see them. Rock faults are fractures in the rock where movement has occurred. Most faults happen along a fault line where there is constant plate movement underneath the surface. The Vulcan Quarry doesn't have very big faults, like on a fault line, it has smaller ones.
The tectonic plates under the crust of the earth are always moving. When the plates move it causes stress and strain on the crust, which can lead to a crack. I think that working together and with people is an important skill we all need. An example of how I synergize in my life is that when I have trouble or stress out about something I always ask a friend to help. This way with the friends help we have two heads working at the same problem, and can figure it out easier and more efficient. Another example is if I am baking something i like to have someone to help. Two people in the kitchen is better than one so you can get stuff done faster. Synergizing is an important part of life, and makes it enjoyable and less stressful with other people's

Following his first trip to Italy in 1630, Spanish Baroque artist Diego Velazquez completed his epic oil on canvas, Apollo in the Forge of Vulcan. Requested without commission by Flemish Baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens, Apollo in the Forge of Vulcan depicts the moment when the god Apollo tells Vulcan that Venus, his wife, is having an affair with another god, Mars. Apollo has presumably entered Vulcan’s blacksmith workshop to bear the bad news amongst the other blacksmiths in the forge. The moment…

In many places rock units can be described, grouped together, given similar characteristics, and placed into lithofacies. These lithofacies are important for interpreting the past depositional settings of the rock units. At the Cemex Quarry, we went through three stratigraphic columns, describing the different rock layers, and placed them into distinct lithofacies. The first lithofacies we described was of an Imbricated Clast-Supported Conglomerate. The first thing that stood out was the orientation…
