Volunteering Requirement Analysis
Volunteering Requirement Have High School students really been devoting enough hard work in the years they’ve been in school or should they require even more work to accomplish in order to graduate? In the article “Volunteering to Graduate: Do We Need More Requirements?” By Miriam Dodge, she talks about how volunteering hours is being required in some high schools in order to complete your high school requirements, but might be a requirement that shouldn’t be enforced. High school students should not have to deal with volunteering hours as a requirement for graduation because it is not a main focus for every student and can might cause graduation an impossible thing. In the article it says “negates the spirit of volunteering itself.” With this it causes students to feel like it’s almost a “bad” thing because they see it as a job that has to be done instead of actually learning how to give back to the community because you desire to do it. Volunteering would come off as “forced work” to students as well as mandatory everyday work. When students have so much going on it’s almost impossible to keep up with community service and other activities going on in their life. Volunteering should be encouraged but not to the point where it becomes a stressful thing. For example nobody would want to donate the little time they have due to school, work, babysitting, etc so why should there more work to add on? Not much good comes out of it if one is being forced into doing something they don’t want to do in the first place. Many would rush all other work just because of the amount of work they are

Volunteering is similar to work but very different. This is because in volunteering the person does not receive a paycheck to accomplish the work that is needed to be done. The similarity is that an action is taking place no matter if you get paid or not. Many organizations even individuals need help. There are volunteer jobs that just require you to have genuine empathy for those in need. For example, New Orleans is in need of volunteers because of what happened with Hurricane Katrina. Many things were destroyed and many people died, but they are rebuilding and hopefully within time they will succeed in rebuilding. It is not just the rebuilding that needs to be done. Volunteering leaves the individual with a comforting satisfaction that they helped those in need. Unfortunately, not every one can do…

Yes, volunteering teaches you social skills and it looks good on a resume, but none of that stuff matters if you don’t have a good character. Your character is something that you can’t get rid of, but you can change. Volunteering can change you into a more patient, loving, and smart individual. In the past I’ve volunteered for the Carl Perkins Center, which deals with children who have been abused. Working with these children showed me how blessed I am. It made me more thankful, for my parents and family members. I made it my job to make those children happier than they were when I walked in. By the time I left I was the one who was more affected. Those children didn’t care about worldly things; all they wanted was your attention. This showed me that the gift of time is sometimes the best gift a person can…

Volunteering is part of the big society launched in 2010 by the conservative manifesto trying to make England a better place, its ran by David Cameron, he's said he is making a new attempt to explain his own vision of how Britain should be. Even though some people are totally against this David says he will still carry on to try and make Britain a better place, the big society is about charities and more active roles in the public services as well as other things to, he wants to do this not simply to get more volunteers but to give people something to do if they want to do it they have the choice. The more voluntary work people are doing without getting paid is helping the recession a lot, as people aren't getting paid but we are starting new things and helping things to develop so maybe new jobs will come along in the future. By doing this we will make the society a much better and stronger place to live in, it take time but something good will hopefully come out of it in the…

I agree with Steier’s idea, but I do not support what her decision on risking her future. I not only believe our future is the most important thing but also that students should volunteer on their own will, not just because they want to graduate. I would rather do hours and hours of community service than meeting the graduation requirement. This way I can show that I do not do the hours just to graduate; I do them because I actually want to help people and want to do something for my community.…

I have always volunteered when possible. Starting in elementary school, I volunteered at a few food banks, a marathon event, at my local chili fest, participated in environmental clean ups and provided my tutoring services. Servicing my community is very important to me because this community has done so much for me. I have gone to the local YMCA since I was young and a lot of the workers there are volunteers; therefore, from a young age I have been trying my best to give back to the services that have been provided for me. Also, through tutoring I have been able to volunteer my time and help students who need it. I have been tutoring fellow students and younger students since eighth grade for volunteer hours. I feel that it is so important to dedicate your time to something without needing to get something out of it. I volunteer in many aspects, solely for the sake of helping…
