Volunteering at a Soup Kitchen

Soup Kitchen
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have to rely on other people to feed you? For you to not get a meal because no one was kind enough to share their time. I have never thought of it either until I walked into a soup kitchen and seen all of these people who depended on others to feed them and their families because they could no longer do so. We don’t think about these things because it does not happen to us. Now, I think about it all the time. I have motivation to do whatever I can to not be that way but sometimes you just cannot help what happens.
I volunteered at a soup kitchen near me with my mom. I spent my day off feeding the homeless and runaways. I did not realize there were so many people who did not have the money to feed themselves. I walked in and seen people with clothing so old there was no color if there was any left on them. They were ragged and musty looking. I tried hiding the look of shock off of my face. I don’t think I did a very good job.
They walked us back to the actual kitchen where they made the food. Even though it is called a soup kitchen they don’t just serve soup. They actually make other things. Because we went so close to thanksgiving they were serving ham, stuffing, potatoes, and things like that. They showed us how they plate it. More or less they stick each thing in its own container and stick it on a table. Then we serve them. They tell us what they want and we plate their food. We also serve them drinks. After everyone has been served once they allow anyone to come up for seconds.
I helped serve the drinks to all of the people. I talked to a lot of the people and it is crazy how they end up in these situations. Some of them just lost their jobs and could not find work anywhere. They just end up losing everything and do not have a way to support their selves anymore. You cannot help but feel sorry for these people. And then you think to yourself this could happen to me. I could end up just like

Soup Kitchen Experience Essay On Thursday, May 27th, I volunteered at the United Methodist soup kitchen to prepare them for the meal they would serve later that evening. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience not only because it was a great cause but also, the feeling you get from helping those less fortunate is a great sensation. I had volunteered there in the past serving in the evening so I wanted to help out earlier as to gain a new experience. A lot of the work that I did was prepping for the…

Starting from the summer of my sophomore year to my senior year, I dedicated 2 hours every Friday to volunteer at the soup kitchen. By volunteering at the soup kitchen, I was given the opportunity to work with a friendly and encouraging team of people around my age. We worked together as a team, taking turns performing tasks and never failing to help one another. My overall experience with the customers was noteworthy, helping me become more compassionate for those in need. For once, I realized how…

One time when we were driving to Florida for some reason, we came across a soup kitchen. Outside of it was a sign that asked for help so we decided to hop in to volunteer. After a while of waiting to check in we were about to leave but, the person running the kitchen called us over and talked about what to do. By the time we started it already felt like a normal job. We served about half the people at the kitchen and my older brother and mom were working with cooking. Me my younger brother…

St. Joseph’s soup kitchen has been providing food to the homeless and otherwise needy for over twenty years. Through my Christian Service, I was able to contribute to their mission. Though food is served from 1 PM to 3 PM, preparation begins much earlier. I worker both the morning (preparation) and afternoon (serving shift). In the morning, I worked a variety of jobs that included making sandwiches, making garlic bread, preparing coffee, moving boxes, going to the store to buy ice, cleaning silverware…

about the volunteer work I signed up for at Haven for Hope. I wondered why it was so easy to volunteer as a class group but when you try to call or book online they make it difficult for volunteers to get in there. In the past I had looked at volunteering at various places because I do enjoy giving back to the community and just being able to help someone else. It’s hard enough for me to find any time to volunteer since I work 2 jobs and go to school full time so when projects like this come up…

Volunteering has affected my life in many ways. It has changed my attitude on life, my goals for the future and I know I would not be here living in Malaysia for one year if I had never began to volunteer. In one of my favorite quotes his holiness the Dalai Lama states that “It is necessary to help others, not only in our prayers, but in our daily lives. If we find we cannot help others, the least we can do is to desist from harming them.” I believe it is necessary to give in order to receive, to…

“How volunteering has affected your life, and why you would/ would not recommended volunteering to others” If you live in a decent size community, chances are you've come across an ambulance or two at some point, either going the other direction with lights spinning and siren screaming. Maybe you've even had to call for an ambulance for a friend or loved one, or been taken by one yourself. Ever wonder who the patient was and what happened, or if it was you or a loved one, think that those EMTs…
