Supportive of Vocabulary Learning Environment
In the year 2000 the National Review Panel (NRP) stated that vocabulary was essential skill that was needed in improving reading achievement. There are four types of vocabulary those identified by the NRP, which are listed vocabulary, speaking vocabulary, reading vocabulary, and writing vocabulary. The teacher should read the material far to presenting it to the classes. In doing this the teacher can discover words of may be unfamiliar to the class. These words can be placed on the word wall, with definition, and visual definition. Teacher can related vocabulary words to the students’ lives to get a better concept of understanding. Teacher should also review these words as often as possible. Because many times it takes a minimum the lease six exposures to the word before the student become proficient in the understanding. By again a week question that is asked “what do you know”. The student is to review this question by reviewing what he recorded by his knowledge of the topic at the beginning of the week. The reviews a question ”what do you want to know” students can review it this is achieved. Last five questions “what did you learn’. The students is to record what he has learned from the unit of text.
1) Summative: Multiple choice quizzes that is focusing on the topic and keywords of the unit text. Focusing strictly on the keywords that were discussed in the classroom. To use this is a formative assessment focus is on words and word definitions, topics. 2) drills a good formative assessment tools to allow the teacher to SOA understanding case level comprehension of each student. Teachers asked questions from the contact area as he/she did not fit. As students are finishing answer the questions the teacher will go around and mark which students have the correct answers. You will then reveal the correct answer, give up to have opened discussion as to why these answers are correct. 3)Cloze procedure this to say to can be used as a summative and or formative assessment tool the teacher has out the passage was several keywords missing the students visualize a problem-solving skills and the knowledge of the vocabulary by filling in the blanks the correct word.
