Abstract

The Future of virtualization and cloud computing is here. More and More companies are realizing the benefits of this technology and eager to take advantage. Not only does this technology save time and money, but also allows the use of all the variable operating systems available without purchasing new computer system(s).

Virtualization
Virtualization is the ability to run multiple operating systems on one computer system, the virtual software acts as a go between for the main computer’s OS and the virtual OS(s). The primary computer‘s central processing unit (CPU), random access memory (RAM), hard disk drive (HDD), network, peripherals, etc. is accessible by the virtual system.
Virtual Software Recommendation
One would suggest VirtualBox due to its efficient installation, simplicity in understanding, together with the user-friendliness. VirtualBox can run on Windows, Mac OS X, and Solaris as well as Linux. The correct software name “Oracle VM VirtualBox” and is available for download at http://www.oracle.com/us/technologies/virtualization/virtualbox/overview/index.html. This product can be downloaded free for home users, and for enterprise users the cost is $50 per named user. Oracle VirtualBox not only boast so many phenomenal features but the high performance has for enterprise users leaves nothing to be desired. Planning for space needed for the operating system, memory, and hard drive space for each VMs is crucial to maintain your host processing, should you want to run all at the same time. Each VM that is started that memory allocated will not be available for the host to utilize.

The System Specifications
The follow steps will install Oracle VM VirtualBox to Windows 7 host. This system specification is Intel Core I7, 8GB (2x4GB) RAM, 1TB HD. This system has been updated to accommodate the installation of currently planned VMs (MAC OS X, Linux, and Win XP). Several future VM installations will follow.

The Installation
Step 1. Open Firefox browser

Step 2. Go to:

http://www.oracle.com/us/technologies/virtualization/virtualbox/overview/index.html

Step 3. Click on Oracle VM VirtualBox

Step 4. Click the link virtualBox-4.2.12-84980-win.exe next to Windows (32-bit/64-bit)

Step 5. Click on Save File

Step 6. Click on the VirtualBox in the Downloads list

Step 7. Double click on Run

Step 8. Click on Next to get the custom setup dialog box

Step 9. Click on Next

Step 10. Remove check from Create a Shortcut in the Quick Launch Bar and click on Next.

Step 11. Click on Yes to proceed with installation now.

Step 12. Click on the "Install" button of the "Ready to Install" box. The installation will begin.

Step 13. Whenever a windows security box is displayed, click on install:

Step 14. Click on Finish when installation is complete.

Step15. The Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager will display or to start VirtualBox on Windows 7 at any time, under Start, All Programs click VirtualBox group or simply type “VirtualBox” in Search of the Start menu. Starting VirtualBox for the first time, the following should come up this is the VirtualBox Manager:

The left panel will later show all your virtual machines, the buttons on top will let you create a new VMs and work on existing VMs, once they have been created.

Installation of Virtual Machine
To create your first virtual machine, click on new: A wizard will open to guide you through setting up a new VM:

The wizard will ask for your VM name and OS Type:

Amount of memory (Ram):

This next screen asking for virtual hard disk for the VM.

Download VirtualBox user manual, which contains instructions and scenarios for any and every supported VM types.

    1) Virtualization: virtualization uses a special kind of software called a hypervisor. The hypervisor interacts directly with the physical server's CPU and disk space. It serves as a platform for the virtual servers' operating systems. The hypervisor keeps each virtual server completely independent and unaware of the other virtual servers running on the physical machine. Each guest server runs on its own OS -- even have one guest running on Linux and another on Windows.…

A virtual server is a complete installation of an operating system that runs in software pretending to be a real computer. Applications like Microsoft Sever and windows server technology in Windows Server 2008 make it possible for a single computer to host multiple virtual machines, each of which run a completely independent environment.…

Virtualization is a way to pool a few physical servers by creating a virtual environment to accomplish the same task instead of using many individual servers. Currently, each server has their own set of tasks or programs to run and none of them intersects with each other, which can lead to some servers being underutilized while others are idle because no request are sent to the servers. Creating a virtual machine (VM) can reduce the physical network load by shifting network traffic to the internal virtual net. For example, the receptionist attempting to answer five incoming calls at the same time, while the mail room clerk sits by idly waiting for the employee or the postman to drop off mail before the clerk can start to distribute the mail out to the various departments. In this example, the receptionist is overwork while the mail clerk is not. Virtualization can fix this by allowing multiple servers to operate on one physical server using virtualization technology. Virtualization creates stable computing service and is growing into the desktop and storage area networks (SANs) environment. Virtualization is usually done through hosted virtualization used by market leader VMware or hypervisor used by Microsoft which is installed directly on the x86 server. The company will need to decide on which virtualization technology they will deploy in the datacenter.…

Even if your CPU supports virtualization, it must be activated in your CMOS boot settings. As your computer boots up, press the key that opens CMOS setup menus. The key depends on the computer and the BIOS manufacturer. It may be F2, F10, or, on some computers, the Delete key. The key that opens CMOS is very briefly displayed as your computer boots up. When you see the message, press the key immediately. Browse the menus and look for a virtualization option. Below, you can see…

Because of this they are looking into a new found technology which is virtualization. Virtualization is not a new concept. It has been around since the main frame computer systems. What is virtualization? It is defined as “the creation of a virtual (rather than actual) version of something, such as an operating system, a server, a storage device or network resources” (Rouse, Virtualization, 2010). Virtualization falls into three main categories: Operating System, Storage, and Applications. Because of this virtualization can be applied to almost any part of an IT infrastructure. According to Rackspace after conducting a survey found that 57 percent of companies use virtualization with their internal infrastructures (Connor, 2007). Along with that Gartner.com states that “Virtualization will continue as the highest-impact issue challenging infrastructure and operations through 2015, changing how you manage, how and what you buy, how you deploy, how you plan and how you charge” (Press Release, 2010). In this paper we will discuss server…

Server consolidation: this is not unusual to attain the 10:1 virtual to physical machine consolidation. It means that the ten applications of server could be run on the single machine that is needed as many physical computers to give the single operating system and the environments of technical specification in order to differentiate. The utilization of the server is optimized and the heritage software could be maintaining the old operating system configurations while the latest applications are running in the VMs with the up to date platforms. “Although the server supports the many of the VMs would be possibly have the more money, CPUs and the other hardware. This would be used little or no power and having the similar physical space decreasing the utilities costs and the expenditures of real estates in sea breeze city” (Burger, 2012).…

Technology has taken great leaps of advancement. Some of the new technology that companies and consumers are taking advantage of to store and process data is cloud computing. Cloud computing was derived from virtualization. Virtualization allows companies to separate business applications from hardware. Doing this gives the company the capability of assigning applications as needed. The option to manage applications is a great benefit to companies. Resulting from the virtualization error, cloud computing has emerged to provide flexible IT infrastructures. This has not only enhanced the options companies now have, but it is also proven to be more cost efficient. This has increasingly become a preferred method of companies and consumers alike.
