Virtual Community The internet is a vast and virtually limitless entity which provides users with a way to explore and develop identity and community through various methods including; videos, discussion boards, blogging, photography, business outlets and so much more. While online anonymity and isolation have the potential to create a desolate atmosphere for users, becoming involved in established community based websites can produce opposite feelings for the same users. Discussion boards and blogging websites do create a sense of community with those who read and interact. However, nothing can compare to the visual multi outlet opportunities that YouTube provides. Youtube is a video-hosting website that invites users to upload various types of personally recorded media (C). This website offers a variety of outlets for users to develop artistically. Some categories include; sports, gaming, news, music, tutorials, humor, video web logs (more commonly known as vlogs), and many more. Youtube offers a unique and innovative experience to users from the simple and easy to navigate page layout, to the media streaming aspect, which helped promote its popularity when it was launched in 2005 (C). Unlike other video-hosting sites at the time, YouTube was one of the few to offer what is known as streaming media. With this feature viewers no longer had to wait for the entire content of a video to load before pressing play. Instead, viewers were given the option to watch videos as they loaded creating virtually nonexistent loading time. This idea revolutionized viewer experience and promoted streaming to become an instantly gratifying entertainment source dominantly featured in society today (C). Another innovative feature that helped spark user interest in YouTube was maintaining Flash Player, a convenient operating system which works on most computers. Even if Flash Player is not installed on a potential users computer, it is one of the simplest browser
