Many movies, television shows, music songs, and video games are filled with violence: murder scenes, nonstop profanity, rape and torture scenarios. By placing scenes like these in the movies for the children and teenagers to see, the media is causing them to become more violent than it already is. What has our society come to these days? Everywhere we look, violence is present; in the streets, back alleys, schools, and even at home. Even if one might be a pacifist, violence will keep its way into our homes through the television. Many parents these days are busy with their work, and sometimes it is hard to keep track what their children do. They are working singles or couples who must rely on others for the parenting and raising their children. Even baby sitters use television as the easiest source of entertainment for the children. Since every family has televisions and the children play video games almost every day, truly the media affects the children. The average hours of American youth watching television is about four hours, which means children spend more time watching television than in any other activity, except sleep, after school. So, parents should control the television that children watch. They need to be aware that media violence affects in the real world.…

“If video games do increase violent tendencies outside the laboratory, the explosion of gaming over the past decade from 3.2 billion in sales in 1995 to $7 billion in 2003, according to industry figures, would suggest a parallel trend in youth violence. Instead, youth violence has been decreasing.” (Hoerrner 49). A video game is a game played by electronically manipulating images produced by a computer program on a television screen or display. Violence is behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something. Some video games have violent and mature content in them. People claim that the violence in video games can cause aggression in people. Others claim that the violence in video games has nothing to do with aggression in people. It is also argued that violence in video games has nothing to do with the rage already existing inside of people. Video games do not cause violence because gamers understand that video games are not real, that video games release daily frustration and are inspiring.…

Since its beginning, music has had a major impact on society. Whether the drums of African tribes signaling war or the sounds of the opera, music has always seemed to have a way of touching on issues in society. When it first emerged in 1970s New York, hip-hop was utilized as a form of expression for youth within the African American community. Pediatrics(2009) stated,” As with popular music the perception and the effect of music-video messages are important, because research has reported that exposure to violence, sexual messages, sexual stereotypes, and use of substances of abuse in music videos might produce significant changes in behaviors and attitudes of young viewers.” As the years posted and tensions worsened within the society, hip hop began to take a more violent approach to handling situations with artists such as Ice T and groups like NWA, the genre depicted a lifestyle of gun-toting, thugs who had no respect for authority, thugs who had no respect for authority. With lyrics such as “Ima choke who I wanna choke”, by NWA promoted on “I do what I wanna do” attitude with no regards towards other nor repercussions; therefore sparking violence in the minds of impressionable young people.…

Video violence is a major problem in our society. When people are exposed to the violent world of video games, their perceptions of reality are changed from a world with consequence, to a world where consequence does not matter. USA Today Magazine states, that video violence is a major component in the desensitization of mankind (Video violence desensitizes the brain, 2006). Exposing children to the repetitive violence in video games serves as a conditioning for violent behavior. Whether or not the allies of video violence believe that exposure to violent games does not cause a more violent society, teach motor skills and develop excellent problem-solving skills (White, 2004), without looking at the consequences of these games, our society is at risk for increased acts of violence.…

Entertainment, defined as movies, music, video games, television, and theater, has caused the demise of society in many respects such as increased violence, increased sex and increased profanity. Violence, especially juvenile violence, has dramatically increased over the past few decades and I believe that this is a result of violence in movies, music, video games, and television. Because children tend to repeat and reenact what they see, and if violence is presented to them on a regular basis as it is on television, then they will mimic these violent acts towards others. Violence in video games is even more dangerous because not only is violence presented to them visually, but it is also interactive, which provides children with an opportunity to take part in videogames through violent acts such as auto theft or murder. Violence has been expressed in music as well, especially in rap music. Rappers have been idolized because of their notoriety as a result of their violent backgrounds and lives. The infamous rapper, 50 Cent survived nine gun shot wounds and he is more respected because of his past. The music industry has become very competitive and sometimes this results in…
