Active Gear, Inc. is a privately held footwear company with $470.3 million in revenue in 2006, making it relatively small compared to big players in the athletic and casual footwear industry. Eyeing an opportunity for growth via a bolt-on acquisition, John Liedtke, head of business development for the company, is looking into acquiring a subdivision of West Cost Fashions, Inc., Mercury Athletic. With 2006 revenue of $431.1 million, Mercury Athletic represents a similar market share in the mature, highly competitive industry. Liedtke believes the acquisition would help nearly double Active Gear’s revenue, and is confident that West Coast Fashions will be approaching Active Gear soon with an offer. Preempting analyst calculations and the West Coast offer, Liedtke wants to perform his own analysis of the potential acquisition.…

As one of the frontrunner company in the shoe industry, we fully understand that this market has a low entry barrier and the customers are sensitive about the price and quality. The low entry barrier increase the market competition, and causing the serious price dropping. The competitors also outsource or expand their factories outside of the US which also increasing the price competition in the market, however, since our competitors only thinks about cutting cost, the quality of the shoes has been lacked. There are several reasons why AGI should consider Mercury Athletic as an appropriate target for acquisition. First, acquiring Mercury could improve both companies financially. Acquiring Mercury would double AGI’s revenue. Although Mercury’s financial performance has been disappointing, they experienced top line growth of 20% in 2006. Unfortunately, their profitability has been disappointing due to price concessions to big box retailers and an unsuccessful women’s line. Mercury’s (and ultimately AGI’s) profitability could be improved by the synergies of the two companies merging. Synergies within supply chain, operations, research and development, and advertising should all improve Mercury’s EBITDA.…

The idea to start a shoe company first came in my head when I first bought Nike soccer shoe at the age of 18. To buy the shoe, I had to go to different stores but still couldn’t find the exact color I was looking for. Then I came home and bought it from official Nike online store. After that I asked myself what if I had a store where there are all different varieties of shoes in store. Then I started sharing my idea with my best friend, Stalin Gomes, who is currently studying at Bridgeport University in Connecticut and is also a founder of this company. He also shared a similar idea and we started working towards building our company in 2010. Then we named it “Athletic Footwear”. Our company 's USP is “The best you can have”. We are committed to provide our customers with varieties of top quality footwear. We are working with all the top athletic footwear brands like Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Puma, New Balance, Under Armour, Asics, Sketchers, Vans and Umbro to bring all the new gears to our customers. Our company 's marketing targets are runners, athletics, sneaker lovers and others. Our company 's top priority and goal is to provide the best customer service possible and going global.…
