FUNCTIONS OF VIKURUTI REHABILITATION CENTRE
Vikuruti Rehabilitation Centre provides a learning environment for psychiatric patients which help them to gain and learn relevant technical and vocational skills to facilitate their integration into society. The psychiatric patients who are taking at Vikuruti Rehabilitation centre includes those who are schizophrenic, substance abusers, epileptic and those who suffering from affective disorders. Patients stay at Vikuruti from three months to two years depending on the patient’s condition and improvement in acquiring and uses of vocational skills which has been taught. There is farm which run by agriculturalists and the livestock officers for the purpose of providing gaining employment and vocational …show more content…
They also taught on the handcrafts working such as making batik, basket, wallet, table mates and small carpets which are made by clothes, then they sell it. The money which they get after selling those goods it used to buy other material for further uses and other money (about 5000 for each person) is given to those patients who participated in making those goods. Other money from artisan is used to buy different food and soft drinks during the Christmas, Easter and Idd seasons. Also there is recreational activities such as sports, watching television, playing cards and draft and nurses are the one who used to play with those who are interested in playing, other patient they use to refuse to play. In the past two month, psychiatrist use to went there and review patients once per week, but for now the one who used go there is no longer working at MNH and no other psychiatrist who go there to attend the patients. Nurses are the one who gave the patients medication, dressing wounds, following the patient’s drugs and food at MNH and store it, supervising and supporting them when doing all activities such as body hygiene, washing their clothes, cleaning their environment, rooms and toilets, cooking, eating and playing indoor and outdoor games. They also collaborate with gardeners in instructing them on how to work when they are working in the garden. Also there is one nurse attendant worked as an artisan after undergo short course on arts and
