Negative Impacts of Video Games on Children !
!

There are various types of video games that negatively effect to children in today’s soci-

ety. Playing video games became a popular activity. In nowadays, it is a multibillion-dollar in-

dustry bringing in more money than movies and DVDs. Many children spend large amounts of time playing them.Video games are becoming more complex and realistic. Some video games may promote learning, problem solving and help with the developmental skills and coordination.
However, there are concerns about the effect of violent video games on children.
Studies have shown that children who play video games get more negative effects and harms rather than positive effects and benefits. The very first harm is when child can get some health problems. A child who spends all of his free time playing video games can get medical issues, such as: backaches, headaches, eyestrain, pain and numbness that child may feel in his wrists, hands, shoulders and elbows. The second effect is poor performance. Long hours playing video games can negatively affect to child's performance in school if he is preoccupied with video games. He can fail to work at his optimum level because he's exhausted from a late night of video game playing. The third harm is when friends and family members may suffer if child is spending more time gaming than is talking to or going out with loved ones. However, the most terrible when video games that feature violent actions and scenarios may lead addicted players to be desensitized to the violence. Players who become engrossed in first-person shooterstyle video games, for example, may adopt a detached view of society or develop aggressive thoughts and tendencies. Many games only offer an arena of weapons, killings, kicking, stabbing

and shooting. These types of games can confuse the children from reality and fantasy. The player uses the moves or tips for how to kill someone from the video game and brings it to real life.
There have been a lot of incidents about shooting and killing among the teenagers and adults.
What do players answer to the question “why they killed someone?”A lot of the answers are because they saw it in a video game. Therefore, video games ruin the child's mental growth.
The solution for this problem mostly depends from parents. Parents can use several steps to stop their children to play video games, such as: set a time limit to the game, try to find alternative activities that interests the child, make sure that he completes all of his homework on time, familiarize themselves with the video games that child plays.
Most importantly, parents should find common language with their children. Parents still can help to their children if they noticed that their child is just turning to be a game player, and take care of this problem as quickly as possible.

The image depicts that video gaming may be an enjoyable pastime with friends, as the four teenagers look like they are enjoying themselves. “It’s a fun way of being with your friends when you are home relaxing. It is competitive and fun, but I only do it when I have extra time” (Bernstein 14). On the other hand, this image can support the notion that teenagers are spending too much time playing video games. Instead of being physically active or productive, these young teenagers are sitting on a couch, extremely concentrated on the video game.…

Dr Nicholas Carnagey is an Iowa State University professor of psychology and a research assistant. The paper discusses how violent video games affect a person 's behavior and if they manifest violence and show aggression in the real world after playing such video games. I learned that not all people who are exposed to video game or media violence turn violent. I think it depends on the person if he wants to get influenced from the game, to mimic what the game shows. This is just like the next source, discussing about what kind of behavioural problems violent gaming brings about.…

Besides the violent contents, video games have several positive aspects. Based on my experience, video games can push children's competence to the limit by forcing them to master certain ability to overcome the obstacles in the level. For example, "Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six" series have become one of the games that require a solid teamwork. The player acts as the leader of an elite anti-terrorist squad consist of 3-4 members. At the beginning of the game, players can choose how to infiltrate the terrorist compound, either by planting an explosive on the door, using a fast rope from the rooftop or simply breaching into several doors to create a surprise assault. These options will ignite the sense of logical thinking and strategy formations in which formal education does not offer.…

However, violent video games affect the children’s academic performance in a negative way, and would cause poor results. According to Anderson, Gentile, and Buckley, (2007), spending many hours playing violent and non-violent video games would cause poor school performance for children. The explanation of the poor performance is that the time children spend to play video games displaces the time they should spend to studying and read. As a result, this would cause poor academic performance and bad results. For example, a group of 1491 of youth ageing between 10 and 19 was studied. The results showed that 30% of gamers spend most of their time playing video games than reading or doing their homework (Cummings & Vander water, 2007). At this point, the academic performance of children would not be improved and they would not have good results at…
