Victim Impact Statement
After taking this class, I have learned more than I imagined I would. I took this class because it was a mandatory requirement in order for me to graduate. In the end, I am grateful to have gained the knowledge I did from Legal policy and Victim services. Even though I am in the law enforcement option, the number of topics I have studied will help me throughout my years in any law enforcement job opportunity. What I learned about and enjoyed the most are victim rights and services provided. Victim impact statements are something I feel extremely strong about because they are the last empowering statement one has control of towards their offender. An offender should not have the choice if they want to hear the victim impact statement (VIS) or not. The discussion board assignment where the question of whether or not this is prejudiced towards the offender was interested to read about other students opinions. One thing I did not know was how many victim rights one has. Ones I did not know about before taking this class was their right to be present in all …show more content…
I knew that I had watched the commercials that involved talking about victims in a variety of background such as sex trafficking. These public service announcement are much more complex than just getting some actors and record their statements. I learned that there are many more restrictions and rules these producers have to abide by. For example they cannot exceed sixty seconds, they cannot say please help/support, and cannot ask for funds. These rules came as a surprise, and even more that PSA’s are donated by TV stations in order to broadcast a current issue to the public. The PSA discussion board enabled me to watch other student’s PSA and thoroughly enjoyed watching the variety they displayed. I found the objectives of PSAs to be rewarding for victims who want to make the public aware of the

The goal of this persuasive PSA is to stand up to cancer. The video told us the odds of people becoming an astronaut, getting struck by lightning, etc., and at the end, they told us the odds of getting cancer, which was more likely than the other examples. They then told us that we should stand up to cancer if we didn't like the odds. The PSA's goals are reasonable. Standing up to cancer would be a change the audience would make. I would find it unreasonable if the PSA's goal was to make the audience members find a cure for cancer or donate large amounts of money since the audience members are mostly all teenagers.…

My major is criminal justice. I am very busy but have done very well juggling all of these things through to past 2 years but I am ready for graduation. I am taking this class because it was highly recommended by a few people and…

I really enjoyed participating and learning about America’s dynamic political policies. This class was very useful and I have used the social, cultural, political, governmental and economic prism method to dissect numerous policy topics for other classes. The format encouraged class discussion and it was engaging to hear what other students thought on hot topic issues. I also believe this course taught me how to have more meaningful political conversations by learning how to refrain from personal political ideology and rhetoric.…

Think about watching tv and while you are waiting for your show to come back on, you see an ad. Even when you are watching a video online and an ad pops up. We have seen all types of ads: the one that makes you want to buy a new car, the one that tells you to watch the new show that will be up in two weeks, or the ones that tells you to buy this new product. However, you get that one ad that talks about serious topic and want you to know what is going on. The ad is telling you this so you can do something about or just to enlighten you with more information about the topic that is present. The PSA (public service announcement) I saw online was just like that, but this ad stood out to me. A lot of people of people have heard the word autism before, but are not sure what is means. This video was about a boy named Jacob Sanchez who was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. Jacob tells us a story on why he does the things he does due to the autism. He tells us what troubles him and what he doesn’t like. He speaks for this actions and tells us that he has a different way of seeing things than people who don’t have autism. He tells his action because his actions are the sign of autism. The PSA wants the public to know that the…

Victim impact statements made their first appearance in the United States in the late 1970s. The main purpose of a victim impact statement is to portray to the people of the court the affects the crime committed had on you, whether it be emotionally or physically. Often times, the victim impact statements can have some effect on the sentence given to the offender. During today’s times, forty seven states allow some form of victim impact statement to be included in the evidence used during sentencing.…

<I’ve learned so much during this course and have truly grown as a person. I have never really been too open minded. I kind of stick to what I believe and no one can tell me otherwise. My grandma is really the only other person I really believe could tell me something and I would consider what she was saying as being correct. She influenced so much in my life. A lot of my decisions and choices I thought of her first or I would call and ask for her input. Without any extra questions or searching for other possible answers I would believe her almost instantly and go with what she said. During these few weeks I have learned to investigate all possibilities before making a decision so I can make the best one. My pride and my stubbornness also kept me from using critical thinking. Instead of taking the time to really analyze a problem and pick the best way to fix it I just did what I felt was the thing to do. During my time in this course I was taught the necessary steps to take in order to properly solve issues. I plan on utilizing everything I have learned for not only the rest of my academic time with the university of Phoenix , but for the rest of my life in and out of school or work.…

The American correctional system has its flaws like many other programs in America today. A hot topic in today?s society is whether or not the American criminal justice system is effective; often times, this leads citizens to believe that the United States can no longer be considered the land of the free because of its various flaws. America has the highest imprisonment rate in the entire world along with a shockingly high rate of recidivism and lack of programs that will truly help law breakers.
