Vice-Presidential Candidate Analysis
Vice-Presidential candidates Mike Pence(R) and Tim Kaine(D) took to the stage Tuesday to debate which of their running mates could best lead the United States through a turbulent period in its history.
Governor Pence and Senator Kaine were both given the chance to defend and promote their respective running mates in the debate, which took place in the crucial swing-state of Virginia and covered topics from economics, to foreign and domestic policy, to faith. The beginning of the debate asked each of the candidates what they brought to the Presidential ticket. Pence said that he brings, “a lifetime where I've served in the Congress of the United States, where -- where I've led a state that works in the great state of Indiana.” Kaine also cited his experience in answering the question, bringing up his devotion to making lives better and his tenure as a civil

Donald Trump’s signature issue, immigration, was also discussed. Pence said that he and Donald Trump plan to end illegal immigration first, deport the criminal illegal aliens, and then “deal with the rest.” This, he said, would strengthen both the economy and rule of law in the United States.
Senator Kaine, on the other hand, said that Clinton and his plan entails bi-partisan reforms and a path to citizenship in lieu of deporting sixteen million people.
In regards to economics, Pence argued that lowering taxes would stimulate the economy and that the Clinton/Kaine plan would entail two trillion dollars more in government spending. Kaine argued that raising the minimum wage, initiating equal pay for equal work, and investing in free college is the correct direction for

After coding all the candidates of the Republican National Debate, Governor Kasich stood out because his number of acclaims varied greatly from the number of times he attacked and defended himself during the debates. This is most likely due to the fact that his standing was last amongst all the candidates taking part in the debate. Because he held the lowest standing amongst all the candidates, many of the candidates did not bother to attack him so he did not need to defend himself as often as the others. He did not attack his opponents because his focus needed to be in bringing himself up in the ranks as opposed to just bringing the others down. According to Benoit's Functional Theory, this is because attacks can often times create an undesirable impression that the candidate is reactive rather than proactive (Glantz, 277, 2013).…

"Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln" is a book whose main story centrals on the lives of President Abraham Lincoln and the three men who would be apart of his cabinet: William H. Seward, Salmon P. Chase, and Edward Bates. In 1860, all four men would be leading candidates to gain the Republican nomination. However, at the time Lincoln seemed like the most unlikely person to win the nomination and the other three men held a grudge at first because they thought to be better than Lincoln was, the 1860 Republican convention would be the beginning of an era.…

debates have occurred regularly and are becoming institutionalized as a practice in American elections. Third-party candidates have fewer chances to join presidential debates, especially if the two major party candidates do not agree to debate them. Unless it becomes in the interest of both parties to have a third-party candidate debate, as it was in 1992 with Ross Perot, it will be very difficult for third-party candidates to become a part of the presidential debates. Even though third parties have debated each other in presidential election years, the fate of third parties in receiving national coverage or joining the two major party candidates in presidential debates is uncertain. It is also unclear how much effect debates have on American…

In the beginning of the skit after introducing the candidates Queen Latifa said “and finally we would like to remind our audience due to historically low expectations for Governor Palin; were she simply to do an adequate job tonight, at no point cry, faint, run out of the building, or vomit, you should consider the debate a tie.” This quote is a particular example of how weak and unskilled NBC’s Saturday Night Live is trying to portray Sarah Palin. Although NBC’s Saturday Night Live seems to be picking on the republican candidates more than the democratic it is not necessarily because they favor the democratic candidates but because Sarah Palin and John McCain give them more to work with. Throughout the entity of the skit Queen Latifa makes cringing faces after each of Sarah Palin’s answers to the questions she is addressing her with. This once again goes back to the undecided viewers who only watch the late night comedy shows and have no knowledge of the actual debate as a whole. They are likely to make negative assumptions about Sarah Palin and not Barack Obama’s vice presidential candidate Joe Biden because Sarah Palin is more targeted than he and they make her seem more…

Type your response here: In the early days, the vice presidency was person that came in second in the elections. John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were this way. So the vice president was actually a political rival. In 1804, the 12th amendment required the Vice President to be elected on a separate ballot by the electoral college, since then the vice president has been a "running mate"…

I feel Pence won the debate. Pence in my option was more comfortable of the two men on the debate stage. Pence repeatedly turned to the camera when he answered questions making the viewer included in the debate. I seen on a TV show this week. That people are thinking that Trump is going to the owner of a football team (President) while Pence (Vice President) will be the coach of the team and make all the decisions. If this is what people are thinking then Pence will be our President. Donald made all of his kids work for him so why would this be any different! Yes, I feel the VP has a lot to do with the election. I feel Pence is well liked and will help our…

During the last debate, which was held in Alton Illinois on October 16, 1858 where some 6000 people gathered for the event in front of the city hall building, Lincoln continued to campaign on his anti-slavery platform while Douglas maintained that it was a states rights issue. Lincoln's position was that the United States could not survive as a nation of half free and half slave states while Douglas maintained that Lincoln's beliefs was a “slander upon the mortal framers of our Constitution”.…

America always has been good for immigrants, and immigrants have been good for America. Over the past several decades immigration policy has become increasingly confusing and unfocused. Today, immigration policy is mostly debated at the extremes between those who want no immigrants and those who want no borders, implying that immigration is an all-or-nothing proposition. At the current time, the United States is dealing with the controversial question of how to treat 12 million illegal immigrants in the country. The reality is that most people are just desperate to see a solution. Barack Obama supports immigration reform that strengthens border security while creating a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants already in the country. He has been a proponent of guest worker programs that offer available jobs to American workers. President Barack Obama promised to continue to press the House to move on immigration reform and asked others to join in. I intend to prove that immigration reform is very important and that lawmakers should choose to adopt smart, thoughtful laws that look toward the future needs of this country, not give in…

In the 21st Century the rise of immigration reform has been very prevalent in the world of politics, particularly so in our upcoming presidential election. It is a topic that is considered quite controversial by many as it raises just another barrier in the fight between Republicans and Democrats in the United States House and Senate. It seems as if the more we discuss it over time the uglier the debates have gotten over it, but it is simply a problem that must be addressed regardless of what side you may choose to take on the topic. Both parties can ultimately agree that the overwhelming flow of illegal immigrants in to the United States must be handled in a lawful and orderly manner, which has proved to be an extremely difficult subject to come to an agreement on.…

Immigration has recently been a brewing topic within the media and has caught many people’s attention. This issue has brought multiple political figures and opinions into-the spotlight, each accompanied by a plan and part of a political agenda. Central American immigration into the U.S. still remains unsolved despite the efforts of President Obama who had promised a comprehensive immigration reform. Some believe that America was built upon immigrants, and that smart immigration practices will benefit the economy and nation as a whole. However, others feel that immigrants hurt the nation by limiting the number of jobs available to Americans, and bring crime and public insecurity. Since the Immigration and Reform Act of 1986, both the Democrats…

It was extremely hard to not let the campaign get between our friendship. We both had the same circle of friends. Socially, our friends would choose sides and chose who they thought would be a better vice president. I put a lot of time and effort into my speech, however, she won by 5 votes.
