Veterinary Medicine Personal Statement
Ever since I can remember I have always been intrigued with the wildlife population of my five-acre backyard. Several vivid memories of me as a young girl bring me back to the days when I took in abandoned baby rodents and injured birds in hopes of nurturing them back to health. In my bedroom, I had set up a row of cardboard boxes with food, water, and blankets for each of my “patients” until they were ready to be “discharged”. Memories like these remind me everyday of my passion for veterinary medicine. Adventures in Veterinary Medicine is not only suitable for me because of my aspirations to become a veterinarian, but also because of my ongoing fascination in wildlife medicine. What interests me the most about the Adventures in Veterinary Medicine program is the opportunity to shadow fourth-year veterinary students in the Tufts Wildlife Clinic. My internship at the New England Wildlife Center triggered my interest for wildlife and I am eager to learn more about the larger ethical and conservation issues that are constantly impacting wildlife. I believe these issues are especially relevant in today’s society due to climate changes that wildlife are forced to acclimate themselves to. In addition to my interest for biology, I equally am concerned environmental science controversy. Environmental science influences my passion for veterinary medicine because of how crucial the maintenance of environments is on the well-being and health of endangered species. Human actions, such as chopping down rainforests, contributing to pollution, and overexploiting wildlife are all behaviors that can be diminished and altered with the help of spreading awareness on how detrimental human actions are on wildlife and natural
