Abstract: In current scenario each and every person is anxious about security and privacy. Vehicular communication (VC) systems have approaches to provide safety measures and comfort to drivers. Vehicular communication is based on wireless short-range technology that enables impulsive information interchange among vehicles and with road-side stations. A new type of network Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET) is available for providing alerts to the vehicles on highways. VANET is Vehicular Ad hoc Network, in which mobile nodes are replaced by vehicles. Whenever design issues of networks are concerned, the privacy and security come into the picture. Also, there are number of advantages for transport operators such as less vehicle downtime and lower insurance premiums. However, there are considerable negative aspects. It is observed against most of the systems, that the main cause of an accident involving heavy commercial vehicles is not effectively targeted. Main cause of the accidents for the truck accidents established scientifically through the ETAC study. The main causes of accidents according to ETAC study are: not respecting intersection rules, use of improper man oeuvre when changing lanes and non-adapted speed. Manufacturers justify most of accident prevention system by in-house accident analysis and not through internationally recognized research. [1] There may be considerable impact on driver vehicle communication due to non-coordination in development of various system, is another area of concern. In fact, driver may start ignoring warning signals if it occurs regularly. Similarly, transport operator’s choice should be taken into account so as the prevention system are acceptable to them, as experience shows that these systems are not appreciated. Advance accident prevention system may contribute to false sense of safety, by which irresponsible driving offsets the safety benefits of the system. ARCHITECTURE OF VANET

Vehicular Ad Hoc network used for communication and cooperative driving between cars. [1] The features of VANETs include large no. of nodes, speed of nodes, dynamic topologies, distribution of nodes, power constraint, mobility patterns, blocking signal by obstacles.
Since vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication allows sharing the wireless channel for mobile applications, to plan the routes, controlling traffic congestion, or traffic safety improvement, e.g., avoiding crash situations [2]. For reducing the number of fatal roadway accidents by providing early warnings emerging wireless technologies for V2V and vehicle to roadside (V2R) communication such as Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC), seems quite promising. [3] Broadcast method is frequently used in Inter-vehicular Communication (IVC) system.
Possible applications relying on broadcast include sharing emergency, traffic, weather, road data among vehicles, as well as delivering advertisements and announcements. Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE), defines architecture for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) has adopted 802.11p, which is a draft amendment to the IEEE 802.11 standard for vehicular communications.

    The growing number of work zones on US roadways demandsthe need for a traffic information system to warn the drivers of timely updates on travel time and congestion lengths. Dedicated short range communication (DSRC) is considered a key enabling wireless communication technology to realize such automated traffic information systems. We have previously developed a work zone information system using DSRC based V2I communication in conjunction with V2V communication. Our previously developedsystem,uses a roadside DSRC unit which acts as central control to facilitate the acquisition and dissemination of work zone travel parameters e.g., travel time (TT) and starting location of congestion (SLoC). However, the successful operation of this system depends upon reliable functionality of the roadside DSRC unit working as the central control. To improve system reliability and ease of deployment, we now propose to develop a work zone travel information system using V2V communication only, without needing any DSRC based roadside unit. In the proposed system, acquisition of TT and SLoC will be performed strictly using only DSRC based V2V communication. Furthermore, the dissemination of the acquired parameters will also be done using DSRC based V2V communication to both DSRC equipped vehicles and DSRC equipped PCMSs which are strategically placed alongside the road.
