Vehicle Violence Observation Examples
On 11/28/2016 at approximately 8:52 PM, I, Sgt. Scott Hale, DSN 114, while driving with Ptl. Hector Rivera, DSN 232, were on routine patrol driving westbound on W. Corbin St. approaching the intersection of Stadium Drive when we observed headlights from a moving vehicle on the western part of W. Corbin. It should be noted that the vehicle was on the side of the road that was barricaded and posted “No Trespassing”. Officers spotlighted the vehicle and activated the emergency overhead lights on the squad car as the vehicle, better observed as a red in color Ford F-150/IL REG temp:238T397, signaling it to stop. I approached the vehicle and asked what they were doing. I observed a white male driver, white male front seat passenger, and a white …show more content…
Ryan Dugger, DSN 227, arrived on scene to assist. I approached the vehicle and had Martin step out of the vehicle. I asked if there was anything illegal and he replied no. I asked if he had any objections to me searching his vehicle and he said that he did not have any and said “go ahead”. I conducted a pat down of Martin and found no weapons or contraband. I conducted a pat down of Metcalf and removed a small pocket knife from him and held it for safe keeping. A pat down of Marrujo yielded no weapons or contraband. Ptl. Rivera and I conducted a search of the vehicle and located a nearly empty bottle of UV vodka in the rear compartment of the vehicle. All three subjects submitted to a portable breath test and all three results yielded a BAC of .00. Martin stated that he shares the vehicle with his older cousin who is of age. The vodka was poured out and disposed of. Ptl. Rivera further located a Gillespie Lieutenant badge in the glove compartment of the vehicle. Martin stated that his grandfather is a retired police officer from Gillespie. I advised Martin that the badge would be seized and that his grandfather would have to come to the Bethalto Police Department and speak with me to have the badge returned to him. I continued to scold the three for having alcohol in the vehicle and to be trespassing on a road where there is a visible “No Trespassing” sign in the road. I told Martin to take Marrujo and Metcalf home immediately. I told Marrujo and Metcalf to tell their

The term “road rage” was coined in the USA in the 1980s by a police officer after he pulled over a motorist who shot another driver who cut him off (Sunrise Digest, 1988). Road rage is currently defined as intentionally participating in risky driving behaviors that are known to increase the likelihood of a crash. Previous definitions of road rage did not include intent. This definition change shows that road rage is something that one chooses to do instead of unconsciously doing it. Two forms of road rage have been identified: mild and severe. Mild forms of road rage include obscene gestures and name calling. Severe forms of road rage include threats, physical confrontation, and murder. Certain road conditions, like construction or a detour,…
