Vanderpump Rules Analysis
Sociology is the study of social sciences. In this paper I will be talking about four sociological terms and giving examples of each four from a reality TV show called “Vanderpump Rules”. The four terms I will be talking about are interaction, social construction of reality, the presentation of self and socialization. Vanderpump Rules is a reality TV show on Bravo that is about a woman by the name of Lisa Vanderpump who is on another Bravo show called “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” who owns this restaurant called Sur and the show shows all the drama that goes on between her staff.
Social construction of reality, according to Dalton Conley is a “explanation of how we give meaning and values to ideas and objects via social interaction” (Conley, 2015 p.132). An example of this in the Bravo show “Vanderpump rules” is that to the employees at Sur coming in late to work after being in Vegas then showing off the butt tattoos they got when they were drunk to their fellow coworkers it is a completely normal thing to do for them, but as for majority of the world that would be considered not work appropriate and unprofessional. The way that these people in the show are becoming a useful member in “society” aka the restaurant is that they find out who to be friends with and who not to be and once they find that out they socialize with them and start to be one of them and act like them in order to fit in and do well at the restaurant. In order for them to do well at the restaurant they need to be out of as much drama as possible. They need to know what to say and who to say what to. If they happen to say the wrong thing to the wrong person or sleep with a coworker’s ex, all hell will break loose and that person will not be enjoying life for the next couple of
