Values Instruction Class Evaluation of Experiences
EVALUATION OF EXPERIENCES Values Instruction Class is tiring yet enjoyable, challenging yet fulfilling, sacrificial yet worth it, thrilling but fun, nerve-wrecking yet exciting, at times discouraging yet perseverant, almost quiting but moving on, stricken yet remains strong. These are just some of the feelings I felt on the duration of my VIC teaching but this is always where I experience the sufficient amazing grace of God. It can not be described in concrete and well defined words but in few words, it is undescribable. Teaching is indeed a full-packed challenge. But the greater challenge doesn’t come from the outside but the inside. I am more challenged on how I will practice what I am teaching, and how to be a living example of these guiding principles. Most of all my greatest challenge is how will I face my Creator being responsible and accountable of the many lives I was entrusted to, knowing that I am not that good steward. I realized that teaching values should not be based on a safer ground but on the truths about God and His Word. In doing so, the Values Instruction Classes’ highlight is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ. I instill in my students that no matter what educational level they attain, if they do not have Jesus Christ in their hearts and lives, all will be useless and they are still nothing. The schools we’ve partnered with, sees this ministry’s impact little by little all by God’s grace. Subsequent parenting seminars and teacher’s in-service training seminars are being conducted in these schools through their request. It is indeed a manifestation of the VIC’s contribution here in our community. According the Apostle James, “Count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing this , that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire waiting for nothing.” Truly, these verses helped me move forward and accept the trials I encountered knowing that my

Personal Reflection on Teaching. Based on the Teaching Up for Excellence (Tomlinson Javius, 2012) article, what are your personal beliefs on teaching up for ALL students? Have you ever had an experience where a teacher (or any other person in your life) believed in you and it made a difference in your learning, education, or life? How did that experience change you and what you believe about others? In what ways can you plan for believing in all students and teaching in a way that respects and stimulates all learners?…

Christians are to have the right heart attitude when God allows trials in their lives. It is, however, very easy to respond in ways saying, “This is so unfair” and “Why me?!” But the Bible calls them to respond in a different way. The Biblical response to struggles is, “…[to] rejoice in our sufferings…” (Romans 5:3-4). Then James 1:2-4 says, "Count it all joy." Finally 1 Peter 1:3-7 goes on to say "In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though fire tests it—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” Christians are to respond with a proper heart attitude towards God knowing that God is teaching them and growing…

This quote hits deep because it is true that I have been called to teach; however, sometimes I get into a slump where I feel that I am not qualified enough to teach. I know that this is not true, but the devil tries to formulate ways to make me believe that I am invaluable as a teacher. Nevertheless, I know that God would not call me to a profession that he is not willing to provide the support and tools for me to succeed with.…

Teaching is sacrificial and it is a calling for those who have a servant’s heart. I am frequently reminded of a student in my Beginning Band class two decades ago. His name was Carlton and he was a special needs student in sixth grade. Carlton desperately wanted to learn to play the Baritone horn well enough that he could perform on the Spring Band Concert but band rehearsals were short and he needed more help. So, he and I agreed that he would skip recess and I would skip lunch a few times each week to practice together. Carlton played on that concert and him doing so was just as rewarding to me as it was to him.…
