In this assignment I will be discussing how my own personal value base impacts on Social Care Values and goals of my agency. I will also discuss how I have looked at anti-discriminatory practice, what values are involved and how I promote this in my own workplace. I will be identifying legislation and how this influences my practice as a worker.
I believe that a value is something that is important to an individual and the values that I believe in play a very important role in my life. My values are greatly influenced by my family. My values include family, health, being respectful and non-judgmental. I also value my daughter, my friends and being honest. I believe that a value is something that you should assign love and importance to. I have been fortunate enough to be raised in a strong family background where I was cared for and nurtured into believing what is right and wrong whilst also being supported to develop my own views and morals. I believe that this has helped me to develop a caring, kind and patient nature whilst also being able to express my own views and opinions where appropriate. I was always encouraged to do well at school and to always achieve my goals. I believe that these values have helped me to always treat the service users whom I work with, with respect, dignity and to always be non-judgemental. I always try to be caring and compassionate to their situation. Three care values that influence practice are choice, confidentiality and dignity. Confidentiality is an important aspect within my organisation. Information should only be passed on when necessary and consent must be given by each individual at all times. Access to this information should be limited to the service user and departments used by the individual and information must not be discussed with other members who are not involved in their care.
