Just as the rest of the world moves forward into the online digital world, there are still various classical traditions from past centuries that retains their popularity with the new younger generation of people. Even as some of these traditions are strange and unusual, they have been held until now.
Another example is Halloween. On October 31, in many countries children and adults dress up in unusual costumes. Some become witches or ghosts; others dress up as trees, goats, and in other very unusual costumes. This festival started in Europe and has spread to all parts of the world. However, not all celebrations spread around the world. Every country has its own singular festivals.
The first example that I prepared is Festival of Snakes
Many people are afraid of snake.. In some parts of the world, snakes are regarded as evil or, at least, dangerous. But, there is one small village in Italy where the people seem to worship snakes. They show their respect and love for snakes with a festival. This festival is held each year in the tiny village of Cocullo, which is surrounded by some of Italy's wildest forests.
There is a legend in Cocullo that the surrounding mountains and forests were once full of poisonous snakes. Many of the people from Cocullo who went into these areas died after being bitten by the poisonous snakes. In 700 B.C.,

The video was filmed in two churches in Alabama and Georgia in what looks like the 60's, but in reality was the late 80's or very early 90's, I believe the copyright date is 1991. In Jesus' Name: Taking Up Serpents heavily documents the practice of snake handling in this religious sect, but mentions the consumption of strychnine very minimally. The people seem happy, but not particularly affluent. They are presumably in the Appalachian region of the states, where coal mining, poverty and a hard life are all too common. The whole thing is presented without commentary or criticism allowing the viewer to experience the culture and apply their own opinions. Taking Up Serpents shows us how literal interpretations of biblical texts are executed with fervor in the name of God. The filmmakers do not appear biased or like they have any hidden agenda. It seems to be a straight-forward documentation of a church service. The filmmakers did not go out of their way to make these people seem simple or poor, which I am sure would have been easy to do with selective editing.…

This reptile represented the sin of lust by drawing its meaning from Christian mythology as a seducer, whether it be for material, spiritual or sexual favors. To the Christian mind, the snake was seen as a devious creature, tempting all who walk in its path; much like in the story of Adam and Eve, where the serpent tempted Eve to eat of the fruit of the Tree of Good and Evil. With Nagini, her ability to shed her skin allowed her to become whoever she wanted in order to obtain the victim she craved. Nagini’s power was demonstrated in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, where Harry was visiting Bathilda Bagshot in Godric’s Hollow, but he was instead visiting Nagini. “He saw it out of the corner of his eye; panic made him turn and horror paralyzed him as he saw the old body collapsing and the great sneak pouring from the place where her neck had been” (DH 340). Nagini drawing power from the sin of lust to lure Harry to where she was is one of many examples of how Nagini shows this deadly…

In the opening paragraph, she talks about how she had a dream about serpents, and her mother's warning her not to go outside at night because a snake can crawl into her buttocks and make her pregnant. She then jumps to when she went into the woods with her mother one day and was almost bitten by snake but it only got her shoes and have ever since been immune to its venom forever. Saying she bought “sought and shunned them.” She then talked about the experience she had from being a catholic. She talked about the “Pagan” beliefs that somehow connect to that of Catholic religious faith. She compared the Earth Goddess, Coatlalopeuh, to that of the Virgin Mary in the bible. She also touch upon how the “dominated-male-Azteca Mexica culture” deformed the female goddesses and pushed them underground. She talked also about what each of the sexes stand for by relating the female figure or “mother figure” to the Indians and the male or “father figure” to the Spanish which in all unites the Mexican culture to a female figure. She also connected the meaning of snake to woman, when she allegated that she has “died several times” and daydreamed and every time she see snakes, which is a “pre-human ideas of women's sexuality, her creativity, her energy, and life.” In the last subtitle of “Entering into the Serpent”, she talked about how we are more likely to lose ourselves if we accept and follow only the rules of our religion, when she said, “Catholic church fails to give meaning to my daily act...It and other institutionalized religions impoverish all life, beauty, , pleasure.” My first time reading Anzaldua’s article, I found it very complex and difficult to understand due to her constant change in language from English to spanish and vice…

One misty morning in 2003, deep under the cover of the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States, a group of tourists set out for a day of exploration in the Everglades. They hoped to see some of the diverse and unique species that the Everglades are famous for, and maybe snap a few cool pictures to show their friends. They could never have anticipated what they would actually discover. A short way into their trek, the party was drawn to a noisy struggle nearby. They followed their ears to a duel between an alligator and a huge Burmese Python. The alligator clamped his jaws around the snake. The snake wrapped its body around the alligator. The tourists wasted no time in whipping out their camera phones or video cameras, and within days the video was viral. Millions were enthralled by the odd match-up, but to scientists, it was a sign of what could be a very serious problem.…
