Hybrid Advancement Trials (HAT)
Objective:An on-farm trialling program aimed at increasing the quantity & quality of yield and agronomic data available for farmers, agronomists and sales for making better decisions on which hybrid to go with.
Status Quo: Information to be made available on product fit based on Geographic Segmentation (up to District level), Management Condition (soil type, agronomy & irrigation), performance against competition, sowing window, tolerance against disease & pest attack.
The Way Ahead: Based on the above information, HAT to be conducted with the following modus operandi:
1. Selecting top 10 villages per Taluka based on crop potential & market concentration. Potential villages can be selected by arranging the villages in a descending order. If in a village, less than three hybrids are contributing to more than 75% of the village potential; will be selected for high market concentration. Intersection of village potential & market concentration will give top 10 villages per Taluka.
2. In each village, 3 paired demos against each competitor with suggested agronomy to be planned. For example if there are 2 major competitor hybrids in the village, the pair demo will comprise of both the competitor with SBG hybrid, to be planned in different agronomy conditions.
3. The size of HAT will depend on the crop. For maize & cotton it can be 0.5 acre per hybrid, while for vegetable it can be different.
4. The observations on hybrid performance to be taken on a weekly basis (Daily 2 villages with 6 HAT)& real time information sharing must happen with the sales team.
5. Once the crop is ready for showcasing, the HAT assessment will take place in following 2 stages:
1. Assessment by sales team
2. Independent assessment by a third party
2.i. Scientific Testing
2.ii. Farmer feedback
3. PEA Team
6. After the assessment, if the product is found superior during both the stages, a product launch meet to take place in coordination with
