University of Maryland College Entry Essay

“Diversity is one of our core values at the University of Maryland. In order to provide a stellar education and foster outstanding research, we embrace the intellectual, social and cultural differences that are integral to the fabric of our community. The strength of the university is realized through the contributions of every member of our campus. Describe the parts that add up to the sum of you.” My name is a part of me. It characterizes who I am as a person and a spirit. It has multiple meanings just as my personality. It means called to pray. Its Italian meaning is goddess and its Russian meaning is hope. These various meanings play a big part in my personality. I am a leo with an outgoing, friendly presence. I love meeting new people and learning new things. I am very creative and I love showing the people around me the incredible things I endow myself in. My strengths include my determination and ability to pray and hope which makes me fearless to many things. I have faith in my payers and god that they will be answered and I will be taken care of. My belief is a big aspect of my life. Without my belief I don’t know where I would be in life right now. It guides me and leads me day to day. I cherish this part of my life as well as others. My weaknesses also add up to the sum of me. I become weak when it comes to my family or my loved ones. Since I am weak in those areas it makes me strong to know that my family is my prized possession and there is nothing and will be nothing that will come in between us. My body also plays a part to the sum of me. Since I am a small person who comes off fairly strong to others I have learned to be one with myself and learn to accept who I am as a young lady. I am a leader and do things the way I feel there meant to be done, instead of trying to figure things out the way others want them to be, or think they should be.
