Level 1 SKILLS OF WRITING LNG 011-1
ASSESSMENT

Term 1, 2012– 2013

The assessment for this unit is in portfolio form: 5 pieces of writing and 1 presentation. It will be presented in two parts.

ASSESSMENT 1
Contributes 50% of the overall grade and will be handed in by Thursday 22 November 2012.
It should include:

• A SHORT AUTOBIOGRAPHY
This should be a reflective piece of writing with focus on your past achievements, current situation and future plans. (at least 500 words)

• A REPORT
You will write a report using the results from a public opinion survey. You will be given the data in class. You may also produce graphs and tables to support your report.

• YOUR CURRICULUM VITAE
(No downloaded templates please)

• A LETTER OF JOB APPLICATION
Choose a job advertisement from a local paper and write a letter to apply for the job. Attach a photocopy of the original ad.

ASSESSMENT 2
Contributes 50% of the overall grade and will be handed in by Thursday 13 December.
It should include:

• A WRITTEN SELF-ASSESSMENT (approx.850 words) of your progress made regarding the development of your writing skills during this module, along with an evaluation of your strengths and weaknesses in this area.

• A PRESENTATION (8 – 10 minutes) to accompany your self-assessment.
Presentations will take place in class, on Monday 10 December 2012.

FORMAT
All written work must be word-processed. Font: Times New Roman, Arial or Courier
Font size: 12 and double-spaced (use smaller font if necessary on tables or figures)
Margins: left/right at least 3 cms; top/bottom at least 2
