Chapter 1 – Hopewood, Virginia, 2004 (Pg. 3-26)
Plot Summary
Lucy and Daniel go to the same high school and Lucy has an attachment towards Daniel who seems to be a stranger to Lucy. They barely knew each other but on the night of their last high school dance, Lucy discovers Daniel’s a very complicated person; out of fear, Lucy decides to run away from Daniel. Daniel realizes that again he has lost Lucy, the woman that he loved for all of his lives. Notes

- Irony: Even though Daniel has lived for over one thousand years, acquiring many different types of experiences, he still cannot achieve the one hope that he has of being with Lucy. “Why did he keep going when everyone else got to start over? Why was he still here and she would always go? Sometimes he felt like the only one on earth. He was different. He always was. His attempts at living the regular world seemed stupid and false.
