Why is it important to promote
family involvement in
educational settings for children
with disabilities?
It is important to promote family involvement
because it is essential in the progress of the
child. The success of early intervention and
early childhood special education programs
are results of the service provider, educators,
and the childs family working together
(Noonan & McCormick, 2006). Parental
involvement provides ongoing reinforcement
of the early childhood program and maintain
gains after the program ends.

How can we, as ECP’s, partner
with families to facilitate family
involvement in our center?
As ECP’s we can facilitate family involvement
in our center by first making sure families fell
welcome inside the classroom. Send out
newsletters asking for suggestions for
classroom family nights and activities. Invite
different parents to come and help out in the
classroom by reading books, help on
classroom projects, or get parents involved
by helping teach vocabulary words or a
subject of their interest.
