Staff changes - Staff are a key resource needed for making person-centred planning possible both in terms of the staffing levels and the skill base of a staff team. Service Users get used to regular staff members and if they have to change half way through their care, then that can affect their improvement and can be very upsetting for the Service User. I work in mental health and if my clients have to change their support worker then they clamp up because they feel they have to relive their life time experiences all over again and this makes them feel that they just want to give up and not bother with having the support. I know through personal experience that I have done a support plan for my clients and just a few weeks after it was drawn up, my clients health has declined. For example, I have known clients who were going out or enjoying courses and then all of a sudden they become depressed and ill and take to bed for a few weeks. One client was doing so well then her boyfriend finished with her and that just knocked her back completely for weeks on end. Recovery from this, takes a long time. I had another client who was starting to go out and about and starting to regain his confidence after having a nervous breakdown, then he fell and broke his leg and was unable to go out at all. That really knocked him back no end too. He then lost his confidence again and it will take a while now to get him back to where he was before he broke his leg. Also I have another client that suffers with Mental Health and she was doing so well after months of being house bound, and it only took a group of kids outside a supermarket to be laughing and joking, my client thought they were laughing at her, and they wasn't, now she won't go out at
