Unit 4 Assignment

What music do you associate with childhood? How did/does this music make you feel? How do your choices reflect your childhood experiences?
The music that I associate with childhood would be many different songs like the Alphabet song, The Itsy Bitsy Spider, Old McDonald, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and This Old Man. When I hear any of these songs I have to smile. They remind me of when I was younger and also of when my own children were young too.
When I got older I remember listening to bands like Air Supply, Aerosmith, Journey, Chicago,(Chicago was a band that was listened to and still is)

I loved all of it! I would listen to any of the “Big Hair” bands like Poison, Def Leopard, Kiss, Winger, White Snake; I could go on and on! I also liked to listen to pop too. I went through a phase where I loved Duran Duran, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper and different artists like them. To this day I can still sing along with any of these bands and it will take me back to my carefree days of hanging with friends or being in high school. Certain songs will actually remind me of things I was doing at the time when I first heard the song! Yes, I also went through a rebellious stage too. There was a time when I thought that listening to bands like Two Live Crew was so cool! Now I wouldn’t let me kids listen to it!! I think that the type of music that I listened to was because I enjoyed listening to it at the time not because I was worried about fitting in. I have always been the type of person that music plays a huge factor in my life. I listen to music more then I watch T.V. I always have the radio on whether I’m at home or in the car. (I told my kids that I need an I Pod for my birthday). I have tons of tapes and co’s that I would love to have put onto an IPod so that I could listen to them at

The music that I associate with childhood is salsa music, because my father was in a few salsa bands while I was growing up. Other music that I associated with my childhood was house music, break dancing music, Pop and dance music. My music choices just remind me of specific memories in my childhood. When I listened to salsa music this would be times when my father would pick me up for the weekend and he would have the music blaring in the car. He would also take me to his band practices or performances. I always felt good to watch my dad play percussion. This is what made me love salsa music. I relate break dancing music to memories with two of my uncles. They were professional break dancers and were even extras in a break dancing movie called “Breakin’”. My uncles would practice their moves in a Kentucky Fried Chicken parking lot on cardboard boxes. My uncles would teach my brother and I some moves. I had so much fun with them. Pop music brings me back to a memory with my Abuela (Grandmother). She used to love listening to the song “Rhythm of the Night” by El DeBarge. We would sing and dance in her living room almost everyday. I correlate dance music to Diana Ross. She was my favorite singer. Kids were mean to me when I was younger and teased me about my hair. One day I saw her performing on T.V. and I said “Hey, my hair is like hers!” I was so proud that I would pretend I was her and performed her songs for my Titi (Aunt). These choices reflect great memories for me in my childhood experiences.…

A lot of the invasion stayed in that generation, many bands and songs that were big then are all but totally forgotten about now. Bands such as the Searchers, the Swinging Blue Jeans, and Gerry and the Pacemakers all had one or two great hits which stayed in that time. This however, was part of the beauty of it all. Some of the music stayed with us thirty years later, and that's great, it gives us a good sampling of the time. On the other hand, you have the music that was meant for the era, and not for future generations. That is part of the uniqueness of it all, and Lester Bangs says it best when he tells how it doesn't matter that the music isn't listened to anymore, that's not what it was for. It was for the time, it was a "timepiece".…

From my early childhood, all the way until now and I am sure to the future and beyond I have been fascinated by music. I have loved to listening to, playing, singing, and writing music as well. I can vividly remember when I was very young in our family room we had a stereo and my family and I would dance and play along to music. I specifically remember The Beatles and The Eagles. I had a small plastic snare drum that I use to use until sadly I stepped on it. Both of my Uncles played music and were in a band themselves. My Uncle Ed was a drummer and my Uncle Ronnie was a guitarist and a singer. I remember going to concerts for their band a t a young age as well.…

Growing up, I had mainly listened to musical artists such as Aerosmith, Queen, and Bon Jovi due to my parents. However in the car I would occasionally have the chance to listen to the radio to hear pop music. The older I had become the more my music taste changed over the years. Currently I enjoy music genres such as alternative rock, pop rock, and pop punk. Due to the fact that music is a form of art, it allows people to express their thoughts and emotions through the words being sung which shows much of ones cultural identity.…

Development in a young child is very important. The rate at which a young child matures sets a child up for the rest of its life. Growth in a young child mostly includes hearing and speaking; if those skills do not develop or develop slowly it can majorly impact the child’s life. Music can help to keep this development regulate or to speed it up when a child falls behind. Many people are doubtful of this process. If you look back to your childhood, most people will find that the first things they learn as a kid are accompanied by music. For example, the little tune you would learn would help teach you to tie your shoes, say your ABC’s, or do many other things. In some case when a child has trouble with learning something we try to create a tune to teach them. In most of your children’s educational television shows the show is filled with music. Children learn these tunes and in time the lyrics click in the kids mind. In time the…

To start off, I have listened to numerous types of music throughout my life. I started off listening to hip-hop and rap music. I believe that my sister influenced this. This is because I listened to music in the car whenever I rode with her and I never got to choose the station. She listened to the radio station Hot 104.1, which is current hip-hop and rap.…

What do you feel when you hear a rapid drum beat? Or even the shivering sound of the low hum of a bagpipe? We all probably at one time turned on music to lift our spirits from a sad time in our life or even just to amp up our attitude even farther from a joyous occasion. What is it in music that causes different emotions to come out and affect our attitude? Well that’s a question that is still being researched but we have somewhat of a understanding of it. Then we’ll take a look at three specific genres. Rock, folklore, and classical.…

Those were the days of real music. People would invest time to find the most obscure, crazy, indie rock band, Tower Records, Haffa's were some be-there-or-be-nowhere record stores where new and unusual albums would find their way into peoples small time lives. Peoples ganja and patchouli-hazed sensibilities were christened in those foggy years. This was when rock was driven by a guitar master or two, a healthy bass, whacked out synth and a drumbeat that would alter your pulse. You know the saying, if you remember the sixties and seventies, chances are, you weren't there.…
