Task Ai a) Outline the key features of inclusive teaching and learning
Inclusive learning is about ensuring all your learners have the opportunity to be involved and included in the learning process. It’s also about treating all learners equally and fairly, without directly or indirectly excluding anyone. Inclusion is about attitudes as well as behaviour, as learners can be affected by the words or actions of others. You are not teaching you’re subject to a group of learners who are all the same, but to a group of individuals with different experiences, abilities and needs which should be recognised and respected. Agreeing individual learning plans (ILPs) and/or action plans can help formalise this. Source: Gravells, 2013.

Key Features of inclusive teaching and learning |
The removal of physical barriers that prevent access |
Adapting teaching practices and/or resources to meet specific individual needs (e.g. sight or hearing impairment, language requirements etc.) |
Adapting teaching and learning strategies to differentiate and meet individual needs |
Flexible timetabling and programme structure, e.g. tutorials, start and finish times, etc. |
Ensuring that additional or basic skills support is agreed and monitored |
Making learning accessible from outside the classroom, e.g. use of VLE, LRC, etc. |

b) Explain why it is important to create opportunities I you teaching/training to support and develop the core essential skills (i.e. literacy, numeracy and ICT) and related skills, such as working with others and employability skills.
We use key skills in everyday living e.g. reading a menu, telling the time and checking if our wages are correct.
This doesn’t mean that all staff within MHC are confident or don’t need extra support with their key skills. We use key skills; literacy, numeracy and ICT within MHC on daily basis with the paperwork we have to produce e.g. -

    Inclusive learning is focused teaching on the learner as each individual. It’s making the teaching inclusive for each learner to their requirements and their needs. Not everybody is the same, and each has their own way of learning. You have to identify and remove possible barriers that are going to restrict the learning process, and reduce their participation in the process. We all learn differently; influenced by a combination of post experiences of learning, study practices and our personal approaches to tasks and assignments. As people have different needs and speeds, you teach at the rate of the slowest learner (in a group situation). This means that yes others may be quicker, but they can then look at notes, displays, books etc. and the slowest can catch up. Don’t make people aware that you have a slow learner, repeat yourself, give hand-outs for them to browse at... people get embarrassed, ashamed and low if they think they are holding up the class.…

Equality is about the rights of the learners to attend and participate regardless of age, sex, race, gender reassignment, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation, marriage/civil partnership and pregnancy /maternity. Diversity is about recognising and being tolerant of different views which individual people have, in terms of cultural backgrounds and different lifestyle choices relating to any characteristics they may have. Inclusive teaching and learning is possible when promoted. In order to achieve this I combine both the training cycle and the learning styles from Kolb and Fry. These include using Concrete experience, Abstract Conceptualisation, Active Experimentation and Observation and Reflection. Learners the mixing up of which produces the learning styles that best suits a learner, ie; Converger, Diverger, Assimilator and Accommodator. By ensuring the lessons accommodate all learning styles all learners will feel inclusion. Along with the learning styles I would include relevant resource materials .
