Another example if I ask a group of children to line up and walk sensibly to the dinner hall and I

Certain situations also call for us to vary our communication skills. When communicating with a group, as opposed to one-on-one, it is important to note that some children do not tend to join in the discussion, either because of a lack of confidence or knowledge. In such a situation, time should be put aside to encourage them on a one-on-one basis. Communication should be face to face, maybe leaning towards the child, with a smile and open hand gestures. Open-ended questions should be asked to encourage the child to engage in a conversation with you. Body language,…

Communication with a child/young person can be improved at the likes of sports or school activities such as school trips away. When starting to talk to child/young person it is usually best to try and talk about them about something they like. For example talk to them about football, music or computer games. When talking about something they know it is always better and makes them feel more comfortable when talking to you. When I am interacting with my children, I watch and learn each child, to find out what are their needs, abilities, and what the children are interested in doing, then create opportunity for learning that builds on children's interest. I plan group activities based on my children interest, and needs as well as their individual needs. As I draw a child into a conversation I like for each child to express his or her self verbally. I continue to look for ways to support their learning. I try to expand on a child's statement to help build their expressive vocabulary skills. I would do things to capture a child's attention, like dressing a doll and putting the doll sock on her hand, and the child will se what I am doing, and wait to see if the child…
