Unit 27 P4 Health And Safety
Within the workshop health and safety is taken very seriously. Everyone has the correct PPE on at all times, everything in the workshop has been risk assessed and everyone gets the correct training on how to use any new tools and equipment. The tutors also make sure that everyone is aware of what risks there are before they use something within the workshop. When the employees were welding they were letting off fumes that could be hazardous to the employee’s health as they were welding for long periods of time which meant they were also being around these fumes for long periods of time. When a HSE representative came onto their site and realised these fumes they asked the company to complete a COSHH assessment on how to best limit the employee’s exposure. When the HSE representative returned to see what control, measures were in place they found that there wasn’t any and the company had not done the COSHH assessment. Due to not completing the COSHH assessment the HSE gave the company an improvement notice. The company was also informed that if they didn’t make an improvement this time then would lead to prosecution and fines. The company had a ventilation system put in to suck up all the fumes that would be produced whilst welding. The reason the HSE use these main 3 consequences is to ensure that a company follows all the regulations and ensures that they are keeping everyone who comes on site
