Unit 2 TASK 1 Decoding the Jargon
TASK 1: Decoding the Jargon

a. Create a booklet which explain the function of hardware components and identify communication between components. The pages should include photographs and diagrams to illustrate the information you include. (P1)
Components communication
The following diagram shows how components communicate each other’s.

CPU
Also known as the processor, the CPU is the heart of the computer and has two part:
Control Unit
The control unit controls the flow of data through the processor.
Arithmetic/Logic unit (ALU)
The ALU performs mathematical, logical, and decision operations in a computer and is the final processing performed by the processor.

RAM
A computer can only run a program when it is in memory named RAM (Random Access Memory).
List of RAM such as: Double data rate synchronous dynamic random access memory (DDR SDRAM), Static Random access memory (SRAM) and Dynamic random access memory (DRAM).

Hard drive
A HHD is a data storage device that provides storage and retrieving digital information. Serial Storage Architecture (SSA) is a serial transport protocol used to attach disk drives to server computers.
A solid-state drive (SSD) it contains no actual "disk", it is a data storage device using integrated circuit assemblies as memory to store data. It is more quiet when it runs, more resistant to physical shock, has a lower access time and less latency.

Motherboard
The motherboard is the main circuit board inside a computer. A number of major hardware components are plugged into it, including the CPU, hard drive, the BIOS memory and RAM.
The most commonly found and used motherboard is ATX motherboard. It is the standard motherboard which suit to any desktop computer.

Fan
A computer fan is any fan inside, or attached to, a computer case used for active cooling, and may refer to fans that draw cooler air into the case from the outside, expel warm air from inside, or move air across a heat sink to cool a

“A CPU (central processing unit) is the “brain” of the computer; it follows the instructions of the software to manipulate data into information.” (Sawyer, 2010, p. 208) The CPU performs logic and arithmetic operations, controls instruction processing, and supervises the overall operation of the computer. The main components of the CPU are the CU (control unit) and the ALU (arithmetic/logic unit). (Dugger & Gerrish, 1994, p. 578) The CPU also has registers which temporary store data during processing, and buses that act as roadways which transmit bits of data within the CPU and to other components on the motherboard.…

A CPU has various discrete units to help it in these tasks for example there is an arithmetic and logic unit(ALU) that takes care of all the math and logical data comparisons that need to performed. A control register makes sure everything happens in the right sequence. The motherboard is the main circuit board inside the PC. All other components are either slotted into or soldered to this board.…

A CPU processor or central processing unit controls the functions of most electronic products. The CPU accepts the input data, processes the information and sends it to the component that is in charge of executing the action. CPUs are also known as microprocessors and are at the center of any computer system. Although CPUs are most often thought of as a computer chip, they can also be found in many other electronic devices including cell phones, hand held devices, microwaves, television sets and toys.…

Some of the major parts of a personal computer (or PC) include the motherboard, CPU, memory (or RAM), hard drive, and video card. While personal computers are by far the most common type of computers today, there are several other types of computers. For example, a "minicomputer" is a powerful computer that can support many users at once. A "mainframe" is a large, high-powered computer that can perform billions of calculations from multiple sources at one time. Finally, a "supercomputer" is a machine that can process billions of instructions a second and is used to calculate extremely complex calculations.…
