Research analysis
The first writing assignment for ENC-102 involves some level of research on newspapers articles, journals, or online that discuss the value, soundness, or impact of online education. I began my research on the internet using Google as my search engine. Wanting to know more information about conducting research on how different search engines work. I found that different search engines function very differently. For example, according to internet access review “Google links ranking engines, which mean they consider the relevance and importance of the links that link to a website”. Yahoo rank by general content they look at keywords in the webpage’s content. Therefore, different search engines provide different results”.
For my research topic, I selected “impact of online education” and “trends of online education”. Not surprising I came across an endless list of articles on the impact of online education, from personal experience to scholarly articles. The Genre: You’re familiar with the book and movie reviews that appear in newspapers, magazines, and websites. They are just one kind of evaluative writing, but from them we can identify the key components of the genre. First, there is the object to be evaluated. Often this is a single thing—a music CD, a scholarly study, a corporation—but it can also be an idea or process: the impact of a particular band on rock history, the importance of a new trend in scholarly opinion, or the management practices used by a particular sector of industry. Second, there are the criteria…

There are several different types of advertising in the world today, like newspaper ads and magazine ads. Then there are commercials, they can be very manipulative in persuading specific audiences to buy their products. In the Pepsi Next “Dancing Baby” commercial, they use what is called a trick image. It is the funniest part of the commercial and is what makes it so appealing. This trick image is the baby in the back ground dancing and doing tricks; it is very eye catching and hilarious in my opinion. This commercial uses different types of appeals to make it more interesting. The husband and wife mention some of the statistics about the product to help enhance Pepsi Next. The target audience is parents of children six months to one year of age and new mothers trying to lose weight. This commercial affects me positively because it is funny and the statistics are true.…

Henry Ford once said, “Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.” In Eudora Welty 's short story "A Worn Path,” a figure of an old African-American woman, Phoenix Jackson, emerges. As she makes her way toward town in a path she seems to have taken many times before, she has to overcome many obstacles. She represents struggle, but most of all she represents determination. In the article “Making the world safe for stupidity”, Leonard Pitts Jr., columnist for The Miami Herald, claims that marketers believe we are “feeble-mindedness” because of the “idiot warnings” that are on most advertisements. Pitts supports his claim by outlining all advertisements that have “idiot warnings” on them. For example he uses “Like a bread-pudding container that says, “Product will be hot after heating.”” This is to show how marketers believe that we are naïve and don’t have common sense. Then, he changes his claim to “Corporate America is to blame because they have damaged the human species”. Pitts’ purpose is to point out that marketers believe we are idiots in order for readers to see why “idiot warnings” were created. He establishes a disappointing and sarcastic tone for his readers to disapprove and laugh with him.…

As I glide across the snow feeling the cool crisp wind running through my coat. My dad and I always go up north once a year to go snowmobiling. Preparing for our snowmobile trip took forever. We always over packed and brought everything from sleeping bags, food, clothing, and gas for ourselves and snowmobiles, but when we were finished we hit the road. My dad drove in one truck with the snowmobiles and I drove in another truck hauling our camper for the three hour drive. That year was going to be different I knew it; we got more snow than we had in over 5 years.…

A "good" Google search is not the best idea, because there are sites that claim they know their stuff, but in actuality, their facts are either incorrect or made up. Their facts may in fact be correct, but for a different subject that their article is not even about. There are also many sites that can be changed and altered by anyone. There's so many websites that anyone can change because literally everyone has access to change the information to whatever they please, so you never know if the information is truly correct if anyone has permission to change the article. Which is why I look for credible sites with credible authors, companies, or even college sites that have articles for certain subjects. It can take me hours to find two or more credible sources, but that only depends on the topic I am writing…
