I would set classroom up before lesson, check all instruments are in a good, clean and in a safe working order. I would also be checking that there will be enough instruments for the class

Before starting the lesson I would check all the instruments , report any broken equipment to the teacher, make sure mouth piece equipments are cleaned appropriately

I Would first find out from the teacher the reasons for observing, so when reporting back i can advice correctly, I Would observe the boy on a normal day, try not to make the observation obvious so the child does not get shy/embarrassed
When observing the pupil I would attempt to build some relationship with the pupil so that they could be comfortable with me being around them, especially if I am not generally known to them.

Whilst doing the observation I would be looking for their-

* Social and emotional – how they interact with other * Language and communication skills – how they speak to others * intellectual and cognitive skills – how they understand and use knowledge * Physical abilities and skills– how they move or handle objects

What form might you record take and what factors might you have to consider

When observing l would try to capture as much information as possible but to make sure that it doesn’t distract for too long within the class. Best way to do this would be to use a sticky post- it notes, note down what is happening start time, end time and record the date, it is important to actually write what has actually happened and not what was thought to have happened, I need to be consistent, not make assumptions, not be judgemental and not be intrusive

Notes can be made in small points for example

22.12.12 10.00 Tom asked for help from teacher

22.12.12 Tom typed letter to santa on computer

When giving the feedback to the teacher i should be able to explain and justify my findings from the observation and be able to answer any questions. Other methods of recording observations could be writing on a note pad, to do a tick sheet or if required voice record observation on Dictaphone

    1. My contribution would be to follow instructions given by the teacher for that particular lesson. To organise an area to seat 7 children . I would prepare the area and set out the learning material and instruments and instructions for each child to use . I would assist the children in following the teachers instructions and encourage all of the children to take part in the lesson .I would also watch the children carefully to make sure they understood the teachers instructions , if a child was struggling i would gently tell them again and help them to understand what was happening in the lesson . Engaging and encouraging each child to explore the different sounds and experiment with the instruments . If the children have different instruments i think it would be a good idea to take it in turns to try out each instrument so the child gets to experience each instrument and they can have the same experience and discuss this with each other at the end of the lesson . I can also ask them questions about which instrument they liked best . I would ask the children to use the instruments carefully and safely .I would also praise the children for taking part in the lesson and thanking them for taking part in the discussion . i think it is important for every child to feel involved and to know that i am interested in there playing and show i am there to enjoy the lesson with them .I also think it is important ask the children questions about what they thought about each instrument and if they enjoyed playing it . I would show the children that i am interested in their opinion and listen to them and also try and teach this to the other children about listening to each others opinions. At the end of the lesson i would ask the children to return each instrument carefully to me and i would return the instruments to the music store area and clear away another learning material used the the music lesson . I…
