UNIT 1 – DEVELOPING EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE
In this assignment I am going to be talking about the factors that influenced the effectiveness of the group communication and 1:1 communication. I will also be talking about the needs and preferences that I had to be aware of when doing 1:1 and group communication. Another thing I will be talking about is the barriers that effected the conversation. For example tables and how effective the communication skills were.
In 1:1 communication I had to make sure that the conversation between my parent and I was flowing. The factors that made the communication between us both more effective were that we both kept eye contact, but not full on eye contact as that would have made it more awkward between us. By having eye contact with my partner helped the communication be more effective because it shows that my partner was interested in what I was saying so therefore the communication between us both was effective. Also our topic we chose made the communication more effective. We chose to talk about health and social care overall and our career aspirations. This enabled us to have a lot to say about the topic so therefore our communication was effective as if we had chosen a topic that we wasn’t sure on and didn’t have a lot to say, the conversation would lack in effectiveness. During the 1:1 communication I had to be aware of the needs and preference of me and my partner. For example I had to be aware of how loud I was talking, or if I was talking quietly. This is because if I was talking too loud, the person may not take it all in as they are more focusing on asking my partner to be quiet. Same with if I was talking too quietly. My partner would have to ask me to speak up so they could understand what I was saying instead of misinterpreting the conversation. I also had to be aware of the needs my partner might have.
