Section 1: Know the employment rights and responsibilities of the employee and employer

1. Identify four main points that would be included in a contract of employment. If possible, use an example contract to support your answer (feel free to obscure any confidential information).

Things that has to be included are
1. Employer’s name
2. Employee Name
3. Date of commencement of employment
4. Employee position
5. Salary
6. Main place of work

For example I have recently received the offer from Royal mail for the temporary contract position. Following are the sort summary:

Working Location: Employee must be aware that by attaining this position, the employee will also agree to work in Rochester Royal mail centre. There may be time the employee must be flexible to work in other reasonable locations in other Medway town as and when Business needs arise.

Abort from the above detail, there was probation period, termination condition and notice period as well.

b) List three key points of legislation that affect employees in a business environment.

i. Pension ii. Pay iii. Employment rights and responsibilities

3. Identify a range of places where a person can find information on employment rights and responsibilities. You should identify at least two internal and two external sources of information.

a) Internal information from
i. Line managers ii. Informed Colleagues iii. Staff association representatives iv. Personnel specialists

b) External information from
i. Libraries ii. Legal professionals iii. Citizen advice bureau iv. Web pages for example; Direct gov.

4. Describe how representative bodies can support employees.
