Or so people thought, until they realized that the so-called Lascaux unicorn had two horns, drawn confusingly close together.

The mythological symbolism of white horses has been picked up as a trope in literature, film, and other storytelling. For example, the heroic prince or white knight of fairy tales often rides a white horse. Unicorns are (generally white) horse-like creatures with a single horn. And the English nursery rhyme "Ride a cock horse to Banbury Cross" refers to a lady on a white horse who may be associated with the Celtic goddess Rhiannon.[26]…

Additionally, South goes on to discuss the unicorn’s role in the Garden of Eden, describing how the unicorn and its mate refused to enter the ark. “Some accounts say that the unicorn drowned in the Flood, but others say that he survived by swimming until the waters went down” (South 1987:18). South’s tale is unique because it acts as a reasonable explanation for many people as to why unicorns are not present in the world anymore: they were wiped out by the flood. The religious symbolism of the unicorn did not only impact works of literature. “Late medieval and Renaissance pictures of a virgin holding a slain unicorn on her lap resemble those of pieta- depictions of Mary holding the dead Christ” (Sax 2013:9). Given this information, it is evident…

Crazy Horse (Curly) was definitely a hero not only to his tribe but to many other people. Crazy Horse was groomed according to tribal customs. At this time, the Sioux prided themselves on the training and development of their sons and daughters, and they did not overlook a step in that development. Before he was 12, Curly had killed a buffalo and received his own horse. He witnessed the shooting of an old Sioux chief, Conquering Bear, by white soldiers on the Oregon trail. Seeing this dying chief set off everything in Crazy Horse’s head. He knew what he wanted to do. On August 19, 1854, he was in Conquering Bears’ camp in northern Wyoming when that Brulè leader was killed in the Grattan Massacre, a bloody dispute between Indians and soldiers over a butchered cow. The way of the warrior was a societal role…

Back when I was little, my biologicals dads mother gave me a beanie baby. This is a yellow bunny and it has angel wings. This was not an extravagant gift and it was special to me back when I was still young simply because my grandmother had given it to me. After I got this gift it was a very short amount of time before she passed away. As a kid I held this item close to me because it was something that I had left of her, but as I grew up the meaning of my stuffed bunny became much more. The angel represents strength, my grandmother had immense amounts of courage through her battle, and I am reminded to…
