A logo is a symbol or other small design adopted by an organization to identify its products, uniform, vehicles, etc. Logos are everywhere, and every logo is a visual element that serves three main functions: 1. Identification
A logo identifies your company in the marketplace. In a quick, visually symbolic way, a logo represents your company to the outside world. Often your logo is the first thing a potential customer sees. It's your first impression, and we all know how important that can be. 2. Distinction
If designed well, your logo will also distinguish you from your competition, providing a way for customers to recognize and select you amidst other similar businesses. Is your logo unique? Or can people toss you in a pile with your competitors? 3. Communication
Thirdly, your logo communicates something about your company. Sometimes direct, and sometimes subtle, every logo says something about the company it represents. What does your logo say about your company? Classy? Trustworthy? Serious? Or Unprofessional? Sloppy? Outdated? I chose the category of superheroes from the Marvel and DC Universes, the three being Batman, Spiderman and Superman. These characters is what the Entertainment companies are comprised of and due importance needs to be given to the characters as a division or subsidiary of the company.
Batman is a fictional character, a comic book superhero appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by artist Bob Kaneand writer Bill Finger, and first appeared in Detective Comics #27 (May 1939). Originally referred to as "the Bat-Man" and still referred to at times as "the Batman", the character is additionally known as "the Caped Crusader", "the Dark Knight", and "the World's Greatest Detective", among other titles. Batman is the only superhero to have the color schemes of black/grey/dark blue in his costume or equipment. This is to represent his “darker” nature compared to other superheroes. Batman has gone through massive changes in its logo from 1940 (Though the first issue of Batman was released in 1939 a logo to represent the Superhero first appeared in only 1940) to 2012 (The Dark Knight Rises being the latest yet film starring Batman). Movies, comic books, novels, TV series, Clothing line, Action Figures and Toys, video games and other Fan Merchandise is sold in the name of many superheroes including Batman. Dark Knight Rises being the latest movie itself grossed more than a Billion dollars in the Worldwide Box Office exclusive of all fan merchandise. Timeline of the logo
As stated earlier, although Batman was introduced in 1939 in DC Comics issue #27, the Batman logo was not introduced until 1940 in issue #1 of the first comic books in the name of Batman. The Batman logo is symbolized by a bat. Every Batman logo throughout its history depicts a black bat with its wings spread out symbolizing bravery and heroism. 1940 – Batman issue #1
The first logo appears to be the masked face of Batman with his cape spread out. The distinct lines of the cloth of the cape are drawn in the logo. In the comics, Batman was generally written on to the logo with the words Bat written on one side of the logo and Man on the other. This logo continued till 1965 when it was changed with a taller and thinner logo which depicted more of a bat or rather the shadow of the Superhero. This form was majorly adapted in almost all variations of the logo. The logo was reintroduced in 1973 in DC Comics issue #252 called “The Spook’s Master Stroke” but was again changed in 1977.
1989 – The Batman Movie
This logo is the most famous and iconic one representing the Batman and his characteristics rightfully till date. It is used in all Batman merchandise and even in some issues of comic books today except in movies as the recent movies depict Batman as more darker and to the antihero side.
