Najmah had been through many things in the book the Taliban always had an impact on what she was going to do next. " I sit in the dirt besides them quietly, not crying ,not thinking ,not even aware that I am breathing. I must have sat for a long time although I have no recollection of the time passing" (62). If Najmah does not have a mother then she must go and travel alone to find her brother and father. This makes it harder for her because the Taliban ruined her family now she realizes that all of the things that her and her brother have seen shocking, "suddenly I realize that the things Nur and I have seen these past three months make us many ages older because the world we knew has come to an end" (252). Najmah soon turns to remember and think about her family "I retreat into thought of my father and brother wondering where they are wetsuit they have died or if the Taliban force them to kill people " (staples). These people have suffered through so much because of the Taliban they have had gruesome experiences and lost almost all their family
