Over the course of the last two weeks, this class has discussed many topics. We have gone over the best ways of communication with staff, and the effectiveness of different techniques. We isolate which were the most important traits to possess, and how to best deal with employees who may possess traits that differ from our own.…
The following are three essays that I worked on during the semester. Most of it remains the same, while some of my ideas have developed. The only major changes made were redirecting the ideas in the Where is Waldo Now essay. In English 1102 I struggled with a lot, Professor Grant really challenged what I thought I knew about writing. Being that English is my second language, language barriers normally do not reflect in my speech or writing. I felt that this semester really showed me that I still had work to do. Passive voice, comma slices, forming arguments, and grammar are some of the many skills that I worked on during this semester. I attended the Writing Center as often as I could; I also asked questions during office hours. I worked on perfecting these skills in my other classes as well by reading out loud. By exploring these different options my essay grades improved 15 points. Hopefully my portfolio and future papers reflects the time and practice I’ve put into my writing.…
This class has taught me many things about myself along with many necessary skills needed while writing. I know now that, through hard work and determination, I can achieve what I might think to be impossible. While reflecting back on my initial writing abilities, I see the weak, uneducated style of writing. Each essay shows my progression and improvement, and, after a while, the class began to become much easier. Today, after practicing throughout my essays this semester, I believe that I, in fact, have…
Throughout the semester I was able to improve my writing skills through a variety of ways. I learned many new skills and techniques to help improve my writing skills. I learned that I need to continue working on my grammar: first, correcting run-on sentences and fragmented sentences, second, improving my understanding of the readings to help connect ideas, evaluate examples, and develop details, and finally improving my public speaking skills.…
This semester has had a lot of work especially in English II, but I’m glad it was like that because I have learned a lot in my English class. I’ll be talking about a few things that I learned this semester. Like discrimination, debating, and how to convince people to change their mind about something.…
During my first semester as a college freshman I have grown a lot not only as a student, but also as a person. At first I thought of myself as a good writer, but throughout the semester I learned that I had a lot of improvements to make in my writing. Already I have made a lot of progress and will continue to improve throughout the rest of the year in core.…
I have accomplished a great deal in the past three months. As the semester ends I find myself reflecting not only on how I have survived the first semester but also what I have learned. Writing is hard work. There is so much more to it than just writing an interesting story. I also learned another important lesson; just because I worked hard on an essay before presenting it and reviewed the daylights out of it did not mean it was ready for submission. Every time I went back to read it I found new changes, typos and other mistakes I had missed before.…
After a year of focused work in English 250, I feel that I have developed the skill to articulate what I want to convey to the reader in multiple ways. My strengths as a reader have also definitely improved after reading the material we had this semester. We discussed several different aspects of the English language and spent a good amount of time this semester perfecting our ability to write rhetorical analyses. Doing so allowed us to focus a lot of our time on the WOVE method of communication and become better communicators.…
I never thought I’d be able to experience a college level course in high school and pass it with an above average grade, more than a “C”. It wasn’t easy though, the journey I’ve made from semester to semester has been a slow one and required more than half my effort and time. I’ve definitely grown not only as a writer but as a student overall through completion of several term papers and activities. As I reflect on this school year, I am thankful for enrolling and for the experience SUPA History has given me. The materials and objectives of SUPA History has given me the confidence to feel capable of meeting college standards upon my arrival to a university.…
Examine how you have been engaged in the writing process and describe how you have developed in terms of writing, analyzing, collecting data and researching, and decision-making this semester. Use some papers from this class as examples to explain in what ways you think you have improved writing and what you have learned about writing. The following questions may help you find things to say.…
Wow I’ve learned so many things in this class. Mr. Huston has taught me many things not just about reading writing and speaking but about life. I love the way he lets us express ourselves in our journals each and everyday. Everyday when I walk into the classroom and get my journal I begin to write the quote of the day down and then to my bellwork. The quote of the day is a Quote that ties into the lesson. Our bellwork is writing about our last 23 hours. So basically you write what you have done since you left Mr. Huston's class the previous day. After bellwork Mr. Huston reads a short story out of the book Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul. Once hes done we write in our journals what we learned about the short story. Then you can share it with the class. Normally you go up to the podium and read it the way you wrote it. Everyday when I look over I see the class motto and it reminds me that if I try my best and give all my effort to stride for perfection then I will grasp excellence in the process. Mr. Huston has made my first quarter…

During this semester I have learned multiple things in English 100. Learning different formatting styles, grammar, annotation styles, along with editing and revising drafts has helped me grow as a writer. I have gained new knowledge along with skills such as references, writing in MLA format, which I never knew before. I have learned new things while receiving comments from the instructor on my essays. Most of them did not have much detail and needed more.…
This is a look back on the last 4 weeks of class and what all I have and or improved upon the knowledge I already possessed in certain skills learned from my experience in writing, and working throughout my life so far.…
When I began the process of researching my first project for EH 1020, I started off with one idea in mind, however, when I started the research process for that specific project I was not content with the results of my research. Professor Appelt, I must admit it got a little challenging at that point of the research process, not finding information that I felt was relevant to the topic I selected to learn about concerning the security of Google. Nonetheless, I recalled the information in Unit I, EH 1020 on selecting a topic, and the examples given on what makes for a good topic was very refreshing to fall back on. Furthermore, after sitting down and brainstorming as well as exploring a subject that I felt would make a good argument; my research…
