UWMC Volunteer Application Statement Analysis
In my UWMC volunteer application statement, I explained the reasons why I'm passionate in volunteering: because of my experience with hospitals and nurses, I developed strong interests in hospital setting, roles of medical staff, and the magnificent human anatomy. After working as both an escort volunteer and a postpartum unit volunteer for over 100 hours, I am finally confident to say that my intuition led me to the right path. Being able to transport patients between different units gave me opportunities to communicate with them, to help them with their needs; while being able to work with nurses helped me building my understanding of the hospital system and unit setup. I looked through the glass door into the courtyard of the Longwood Campus and saw a single flower on its own in a flower garden. Suddenly, the words of my junior year English teacher on transcendentalism had bombarded my thought process. I realized in this moment that going to other countries or being the head of a club did not give someone value as a political leader as candidates before me had argued.
