Tyranny In The Outsiders
A boy with no parents and in a bad neighborhood with bad influences as friends and is a minor that smokes and his older brother lets him do that and have those friends , which also doesn’t give him a curfew and lets him go to places alone , should be in the system.
Ponyboy has an older brother Darry, but Darry doesn’t really take care of ponyboy like he should or gives him as much as attention as he should get for a teenager.
Ponyboy should be in the system because he is a young boy that has bad influences around him,and has no parents to take care of him. If he goes into the system Ponyboy would have more attention and would be kept out of trouble and be safe . “I went on walking home, thinking about the movie, and then suddenly wishing

“Let me fight, Darry…” “Well”-Darry gave in-”I guess you can.” ( Hinton. 135) This quote is showing Darry is letting Ponyboy be involved in things that can get him hurt or even killed, Darry is not thinking of the consequences of how Ponyboy can get hurt in that Rumble . Darry wasn’t so convinced of letting him go , yes that’s good, but Darry still let him go fight in this big rumble , if he were a better guardian he would’ve left him at home. Knowing that Ponyboy could get hurt Darry still let him fight and if he really did care about him he would’ve not let him go. A good guardian thinks if he will get hurt and the consequences first, instead of just letting a kid go to a big fight where he could get hurt. “Darry’s hard and firm and rarely grins at all.” this quote shows how Darry doesn’t show any emotion and isn’t really happy , Ponyboy shouldn’t be with someone that is serious all the time and shows no feelings , because he can become like that too . Ponyboy might not tell Darry things because he probably thinks Darry doesn’t care because he never shows emotions, and Ponyboy should be with someone that is a least a bit happy and boost Ponyboy’s emotions . In the system Ponyboy will be …show more content…
“I don’t know if you ought to be in this rumble, Ponyboy”… “You fight real good for a kid your size. But you were in shape before. You’ve lost weight and you don’t look so great, kid. You’re tensed up to much.” Yes at first Darry didn’t want Ponyboy to go to the rumble at first , but that was because Ponyboy wasn’t in shape , if he were in shape Darry would’ve quickly said yes. Darry still let Ponyboy go to the fight though good shape or not or good fighter , a teenager shouldn’t be in a big fight where he could get hurt. A rumble is no place for a young teenager because their is a lot of people hurting each other and that was very irresponsible of Darry for letting Ponyboy go to the rumble knowing he was weak and it was too dangerous for him.

In conclusion Ponyboy should be in the system because a boy with parents and a irresponsible guardian, with bad influences all around him should be in a good home. Ponyboy would focus more in school and won’t have to worry about getting hurt by someone because he’s alone, he would also be in a better neighborhood. Pony would do much better in the system because they would take care of him and have him in good conditions, with good grades , also with no risk of death every minute. The system would take much better care of Ponyboy than his

Even after all pony went through his teachers still put him to his high expectations to complete his work at the speed and accuracy he did before. His English teacher knew the circumstances and that's why he understood why ponyboy was falling behind in class."taking into consideration the circumstances..."(ponyboys English teacher)(144). In the beginning of the story Dally and Ponyboy didn't get along the best. But throughout the story they became closer. Dally’s death happened right after he stole from the store. The cops showed up and circled around Dally under a street light. Dally soon pulled out a gun and acted like it was loaded but it really wasn't. How would the cops know that? They did not know that. After the cops told Dally to put the gun down multiple times and Dally still wouldn't do it so they shot him. Ponyboy took this really hard because him and Dally had gotten very close. Also dally had helped Ponyboy and Johnny out whenever they needed something. So I think that Ponyboy was really mad because he didn't stop it from happening. Also now Ponyboy is dealing with two deaths of his very good friends. “I knew he would be dead, because Dally Winston wanted to be dead and he always got what he wanted” said Ponyboy (Hinton…

The Curtis boys eat chocolate cake every morning, page 105 says this “The first one up has to make breakfast, I started to find the eggs we need for our chocolate cake we eat every morning for breakfast, along with our chocolate milk.” This is some proof that Ponyboy should go to the system. He would be better off with the system because, the cake has a lot of sugar and it’s he’s eating a block of sugar everyday. So if Ponyboy stays with Darry he could get bad stomach problems involving diabetes and stomach and health issues. So the opponents that are on Darry’s side might argue that “ He’s a kid let him eat what he wants.” Then back to the system side, “ What’s good with letting him eat what he wants, when it could lead him to health issues, body problems, and possibly dying. So now that the system has a step up, Ponyboy will be better off with the system because they will make sure he gets a good breakfast EVERY MORNING!…

Darry is responsible enough to keep Pony here is why. “Pony, where have you been all this time?”he meant”Pony, you had me scared to death. Please be careful, because I couldn’t stand it if anything happened to you ”,(pg. 98) this shows that Darry cares for Ponyboy. Also says it like this because he wants Ponyboy to know that he doesn’t want him to get into trouble or split up. “I hate to leave you here by yourself, Ponyboy,”Darry said slowly.”Maybe I ought to take the day off ”(Hinton, pg. 112).…

Ponyboy is very intelligent and is aware that education can lead to a better future for him. He is the only person in the gang that has a chance at being successful one day. Ponyboy resents fighting while the rest of the gang admires it. “Why do I fight? I thought, and couldn’t think of any real good reason for fighting except for self-defense.” -Ponyboy Curtis page Ponyboy prefers to resolve problems without having to use violence; he only fights when it’s necessary. Darry is already trying to protect Ponyboy from becoming like the rest of the Greasers, he understands that Ponyboy has a bright future and it can not be ruined by the environment he has grown up in(Being raised around people who like to fight and steal things from stores). Ponyboy is selfless unlike the rest of the gang. He rushed into the church to save the kids (knowing that he likely caused the fire) instead of running away to keep himself safe from the police. Two-Bit also makes a comment about how darry would be a soc if it weren't for The gang. Pony also has the same conversation with Randy about how he doesn't want to fight in the rumble. Noboday should ever holler at my brother. I exploded. “You dont yell at him!” I shouted. Darry wheeled around and slapped me so hard that it knocked me against the door.” Throughout the book Ponyboy talks about how much Darry hates him, and how he likes Sodapop better. He talks about how Darry gets mad when Ponyboy gets B’s on his report card but didnt get upset when Sodapop dropped out of school. At the end of the book though, Ponyboy realizes that Darry loves him so much that he is often to hard on him. “I let go of Soda and sood there for a minute. Darry didnt like me… he had driven me away that night… he had hit me… Darry hollered at me all the time… he didnt give a hang about me.. Suddenly I realized, horrified, that Darry was crying… In that second what Soda and Dally and Two-Bit had been trying to tell me came through. Darry did care about me, maybe as much as he cared about Soda, and because he cared he was trying to hard to make something of me.” In the end Ponyboy succeeded in overcoming his obstacle, Darry, because he finally realizes that all the times Darry was hard on him, or mean, he was only trying to help because he loved Ponyboy so…

From reading the book it was pretty clear that Ponyboy had a rough family life. It is a huge part of Ponyboys growth realizing his family was the most important thing to him but hadn’t realized this until it was too late. Ever since his parents died he has been under the care of Darry. Ponyboy always felt like Darry never loved him because he could never please him. "He's as hard as a rock and about as human...he thinks I'm a pain in the neck. He likes Soda--everybody likes Soda--but he can't stand me." (Hinton 42) . If Ponyboy were to bring home B’s, he demanded A’s and if he got A’s he wanted his marks to stay that way. Darry and Soda had different points of view on how to interact with their brother Ponyboy. On page 2, the books states, “Soda’s never hollering at me all the time the way Darry is, or treating me as if I am six instead of fourteen.” From this quote, the reader is told that Darry treats Ponyboy differently than Soda. It can be inferred that Darry is more strict with Ponyboy while Soda may not be as strict. On the other hand, “Soda’s always happy-go-lucky and grinning, while Darry’s hard and firm and rarely grins at all.” (The Outsiders, pg. 2) This quote shows another example of how Soda is different from Darry because it shows Soda being more joyful and relaxed, but Darry is more stern and not warm. Furthermore, the way both brothers treat Ponyboy demonstrates Hinton’s theme that family is there to support each other at all times because both brothers clearly care about Pony but show it in different…

Through his many struggles, Ponyboy ultimately becomes a hero. His heroism helped him to decide right over wrong. His heroic decisions helped him stand by his friend’s side and help save kids from a burning church. Ponyboy shows extreme loyalty by sticking by his friend Johnny’s side when he killed Bob. He defies the law by going to Windrixville with Johnny to hide out from the cops instead of turning themselves in, but they eventually make the right decision to turn themselves in (pg. 56-87). Ponyboy had to make another important decision when some kids were stuck in the burning church. He had two choices he could make; one he could risk his life by saving the kids or two he could just let the kids die in the church. In the end Ponyboy made the right decision to risk his life to save the kids (pg. 90-93). At the end of the book Ponyboy chooses to help his friends fight in the rumble even though he is not feeling very well and is not in very good shape (pg.131-145). It could have been easy for Ponyboy to change any of the decisions he made, but he did not. So in the end the decisions Ponyboy ultimately made define him as the hero that he is.…

A strong similarity between Johnny and Dally is that they both have parents who abuse and neglect them. Half of the time Dally’s father does not know where he is. While Dally, Johnny, and Ponyboy are driving back to the church, Dally says, “‘ Shoot, my old man don’t give a hang whether I’m in jail or dead in a car wreck or drunk in the gutter. That don’t bother me none’” (88). Dally’s dad does not care about him. His dad neglects him and does not pay any attention to him. This…
