In "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" and "The Story of an Hour," the authors use similar techniques to create different tones, which in turn wrongful very distinct reactions from the reader. Both use a third person narrator with a limited omniscient point of view to tell of a brief, yet significant period of time. In "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge," Bierce uses this method to create an analytical tone to tell the story of Farquhar's experience just before death. In "The Story of an Hour," Chopin uses this method to create an involved sympathetic tone to relay the story of Mrs. Mallard's experience just before death. These stories can be compared on the basis of their similar points of view and conclusions as well as their different tones.…

The way a story is told is completely different depending on the narrator because of their point of view. An example of this incident is in the passage from Nathaniel Hawthorne¡¯s The House of the Seven Gables. The sarcastic way that the character Judge Pyncheon is revealed through the narrator is distinguished through the narrator¡¯s (not the author¡¯s) style of writing including tone, selection of detail, and syntax.…

It is easy to notice a similarity on the surface of two things that look alike, but when two stories are completely different in their content, it is not easy to detect a similarity. For instance, after we read for the first time “The Necklace” by Guy De Maupassant and “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” by Mary Flannery O’Connor, we cannot connect these two tragedies together. Both were written in a different time by different authors, and they end in a different way. However, if we study deeply both stories, we can find their similarities even though their contexts are different. Although “The Necklace” and “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” are different tragedies, both of them focus on their main characters that suffer from pride, are manipulative, and change during the story.…

The two different chapters have different feelings about everything. This fulfills his argument “there are two side to every story”. The chapter “The Man I Killed” portrays his feelings after the incident happened. The chapter “Ambush” exposes how the character felt leading up to the incident. For example, “The Man I Killed” starts out, “His jaw was in his throat, his upper lip and teeth was a star-shaped hole, his eyebrows were thin and arched like a women’s…” The chapter “Ambush”, one of the paragraphs starts out, “He was short, slender young man of about…

Although the topic of the certain short stories and poems have different themes and comprehension of what corresponding works that might have similar or different topics, will tell a person what racial background and ethnicities are represented in the short story “Country Lovers” and the poem “What It’s like to be a Black Girl”. Finding out whether the characters are the same, if the setting is different between the two, if the theme told outright or did one have to “think outside of the box” to determine its meaning will lead to what content the two have. If one literary work is a ballad or a play, if one is longer or shorter than the other one, if the tone is the same between the two works, if the language differs between the two works or if it is the same, and whether one works using metaphors, while the other uses similes, will give a person clues as to what the short story and the poem have as far as form, and style.…
