Two Cause and Effect; Evaluate Their Logic
Ciearra Black
November 4 2010 I thought that the book Jim Thorpe, was a good book. I thought that it was good that the main character Jim Thorpe was in the Olympics because it kept him fit. It also was not good for the Olympics to take Jim’s trophies away because he did not deserve it. But I thought the end of the book was good because he became the best athlete in the world. It was good that Jim was in the Olympics because it kept him fit. He was an active man I tell you. He was an expert in all of these sports baseball, football, wrestling, field and track, boxing, golfing, swimming, and shooting. He was always running and stayed in several different sports. Also Mr.Thrope was well at all sports he played in. The Olympics took away Jim’s trophies away because in the summer he playing baseball for fun and the coach told him they would give him fifteen dollars a week for playing and he thought well fifteen bucks can get me something to eat so he took the money and later on the Olympics took his trophies for the simple fact that Jim had violated the amateur code of the Olympics. I didn’t like that they did that because that’s just bogus and they offered him the money so yeah he’s going to take it. Plus he needed the money to eat for the week and stuff so he deserved to have the money. I liked that he became the best athlete in the world, at the end of the book. He became the best athlete in the world because he was good in so many sports and won so many trophies. He was known worldwide. He was known worldwide because he was a professional athlete and he was so well known that he played baseball, football, he swam, wrestling, golfed, boxing, and plenty more also. The book, Jim Thorpe, was very interesting I thought. It was interesting because he always did more than one sport and all the sports he did participate he was amazing in all of them. He was amazing at what he did. Everybody liked the way he played his

For a book that is a must read in class, Papa Jack: Jack Johnson and the Era of White Hopes is a book that really is a must read. I remember hearing the term about giving someone a Jack Johnson, but I never knew where the term came from. For example, they use this saying in Anchorman and now that I know who the saying is about, I find it to be even funnier. Anyway, if you are someone who likes sports or history of sports, then you should read Jack: Jack Johnson and the Era of White Hopes because it gives a description as to how a young African American came to rise to the top at a time where this was unheard of. This is almost like an underdog story, but it turned out that Jack Johnson was the best regardless of this skin color.…

In the chapter win forever, I found it refreshing with how he set up his program. He thought about every detail that goes in to making a team that can win year after year. His belief system and philosophy are what lead him to the Super Bowl title. It really made me think of my own philosophy and belief system. In all honesty it made me start writing down everything I want me team and athletes to be about. I also lie how he picked players and staff based around his philosophy. He put together a team of like minded people and that’s why it…

I chose this book on many accounts not the least of those being that I heard everyone talking about it in class. I also was intrigued about this book based upon the synopsis that I read in wikipedia. Which explained it well enough to catch my eye and investigate the story to see if I liked which ultimately I had a fine time reading it. I also enjoy learning about people who started from near nothing and made something of themselves. In this case it was a bumpy road, but it was interesting none the less. It was definitely educational for a lack of better words.…

Overall I really enjoyed this book. Even the parts I did not like very much still caught my attention. An example of this is the section pertaining to how real estate agents may not try their very hardest to get you the best deal. Although this makes absolute sense in the simplest manner, much like everything in this book, it is not the easiest to stomach. While the real estate agents only lose a couple hundred dollars in commission, a buyer or seller can lose thousands of dollars because of an antsy real estate agent. Another example of a part that I did not like was the excerpt on the teachers cheating for their students. I was completely put off by this because in the end, the students ended up in a worse spot than where they were original. Standardized testing is put in place to make…

In cultures that value outspokenness and overt confidence, shyness can be perceived as weakness. I really enjoyed the book and would recommend anyone to read it. I learned a lot from the book itself along with the quotes throughout the book. It motivates me to want to do more with others before leaving this earth. Knowing that I’m able to do things like that now makes me feel good inside because I don’t want to miss out on a good thing. I also know it would make the other people feel a sense of belonging and it will warm their heart.…
