Twin Sister Shannon
Alison Risko 9/6/14
Mr. Mendo H. English

I’d like to begin by saying that it’s a lot harder to write about yourself than you think. Last night when I typed this, it took me longer than it probably should have. But that might just be me. Anyways, I’ll start out with when I was born. My twin sister Shannon and I were born at the Atlantic City Medical Center on Thursday, January 28th, 1999. Shannon and I are fraternal twins, and most people that we meet never believe us when we tell them we’re twins. She has curly hair and blue eyes, and looks nothing like me. We are exactly thirty eight minutes apart. We literally do and share everything together, which can be kind of annoying sometimes, but I don’t really mind. I also have 3 other sisters. The oldest, Katie is 19, going on 20 on September 27th. She is going into her second year at college. She transferred from Liberty University to Stockton College this year. My second oldest sister, Emily is 18. She just went into her first year of college at Christopher Newport University in Virginia. The youngest of my family is Julia, who is 10 and will be turning 11 soon; which is crazy because it seems like just yesterday she was a baby. Then there are my parents, Marilyn and Phil, who I love very much and are always there for me. We’ve all been living in Swainton since 1999. After Shannon and I were born, we lived in Sea Aisle for 6 months while our house was being built. My sisters and I have gone to Middle Township our whole lives. I think the best part about our school is that there are so many different activities and clubs to do. I also like that we have a dress code rather than a uniform because that gives everyone a chance to express themselves. The worst part is

Three words that best describe me are easy going, fun, and talkative. I have chosen these words because these are the things people usually tell me I am. The following beliefs are important to me friends, family, and pets. Five things that I find difficult are math, school, drama, losing someone close, and saying goodbye. I often worry about what’s going on in the world because it could be peaceful in Thunder Bay but in other cities people could be struggling. I am happiest when I am with my boyfriend just hanging out and watching television or when I am with my friends and family out at camp or having a family get together. My family background is very simple I have only ever lived in Thunder Bay. I have 2 brothers, a mom, a step dad, and a biological dad. My education in high school hasn’t been the greatest and I regret a lot of things in the past 3 years with my school. I am hoping to become a hair dresser and open my own hair salon in the future. The only work experience I have had is when I worked at Robin’s Donut’s on Frederica and James street. I worked up front as a cashier and stocked most of the merchandise. One of the hobbies that I spend most of my time doing is singing. I really love and enjoy singing. I started taking lessons 2 years ago and have stuck with it ever since. I also decided to take guitar lessons but I unfortunately gave up on it and sold my guitar during the…

Until I was three years old, I was having fun as a toddler by myself. Although, a month before my fourth birthday, I received a beautiful baby sister named Kinsley Ann Kemper. Little did I know that within about nine years she was going to become an ornery child. When she was little, my parents had to set rules for me to follow because they knew that I could follow the rules that they gave me, while they were taking care of Kinsley. Also, when I was three, I started to go to dance. My first year of dance, I got an award for the dancer of the year, which made me very overjoyed and excited at the same time. I can still remember…

During this time, my younger brother was born and the downfall of my parent’s relationship began. Home life was difficult, but surrounding myself in books and science projects comforted me and I was happy with myself. I learned that drowning myself in novels and tutoring others was the best cure to feeling upset about either family or friend drama, so I used this to my advantage from seventh to eleventh grade. As a result, I received Academic Awards and was placed on the Honor Roll every year and was extremely proud of this version of myself that I had…

I could not begin to describe the odd characteristics I possess, but when asking my peers they told me that I was somehow strangely unique. I was never that girl who stood in with the “in” crowd nor did I ever seem like the type that stood by myself, I was in any case just me. Growing up I never really ever fashioned myself as being in any group but I could talk to almost anybody. Kids back then did not see in color. I am an African American student, according to everyone else I “marched to the beat of my own drum” but again to me I was just Jasmine. I came from an abusive home, I never really had much clothes but I did what I could to make it work, and I loved sports, it’s how I expressed myself and released frustration. As my generation grew older I noticed people I once could talk to didn’t. They began to look at me different and strange, it took me some time to realize what they were doing was natural to them because the human mind tends to gravitate to things it is use to; instead of thinking in black and white they finally saw color, as I was forced to come to the realization of when I was young. I still trudged on, known as an outcast but still one that kids looked up to. I believed in myself my rights and my dreams and I am determined to make them come true. By the grace of God, he has now moved obstacle’s and people out of my way to let me succeed in life. Not letting anyone tell me otherwise I stood up for myself, and I would never take no for an answer. As stubborn as I am, I am a true friend, a lover of all things, and a genuinely caring person. I’m the girl you would never guess enjoys country music and wearing her boots on a Friday night, the girl that could make just about anyone laugh, the girl who is wildly passionate on any given subject, the girl that goes to sleep at 3o clock in the morning finishing homework after getting…

A couple days after I was born is when the first ever school shooting happened at Columbine High School in 1999 in Colorado. I share a birthday with Kassidy Steffen and Colleen Daniels. The first couple years of my life I honestly do not remember. My mom has told me stories about when I was a baby. When I was little I loved to help out and do whatever my mom was doing.
