Coping methods vary widely, as there are hundreds, but they can be narrowed into nine forms, all which focus on different things. The types are humor, seeking support, problem-solving, relaxation, physical recreation, adjusting expectations, denial, self-blame, and venting. The type of coping method a person “uses” simply depends on the person, situation, and they way they were raised. Not all ways to cope are good, however. Bottling it up, a form of denial, causes the person to have trouble speaking their mind to other people, no matter how close they may be to the person. Certain ways work better for different people, such as an outspoken person might find someone or somewhere that will let them release their thoughts about the cause of their feelings, known as venting. People need to cope for different reasons, most circling back to stress.”
