Turning Men Into Women The idea that magazines are turning men into women is true. In recent years, men have been becoming more and more concerned about their looks. This is happening for various reasons. But just because media is changing the definition of “men”, that does not mean men are as bad as their women counterparts. As a whole, Women are still more concerned about their looks than men will probably ever be. Men are more concerned about their looks than they were a couple decades ago. However, change is not necessarily a terrible thing, it’s just different. If a man feels compelled to look cleaner and less gruff and withered, men should have the choice to do so without judgment. Also, just because some men are becoming more sensitive about their looks doesn’t mean all men are. There are still men who could care less about how they look and some men still look about as gruff as a man can look. Many men may still look nice, but they may not care at all about up keeping themselves and looking good for them just comes naturally. When the article states that 20% of men are now getting manicures and pedicures and more than 690,000 men got cosmetic pedicures nationwide (and 690,000 people is a relatively small number of people compared to the number of people in the total population of the United States), it is possible that men are just trying to look cleaner and healthier to appease women. The more attractive looking a man is in a woman’s eyes, the more likely she will choose him. Women could be forcing some men to change their appearance because women are changing theirs. Some men feel have to change their appearance to meet the ever growing standards of women’s thoughts and looks. Even though men in general may be changing their appearances and habits doesn’t mean they are as sensitive and worrisome as women about their looks. Men’s growth in caring about how they look is rather sluggish compared to

First, the image of a man has dramatically changed. As Jackson Katz quoted, males are now huge, bulky and muscular; whereas women are now anorexic, boney and thin. For example, A G-I Joe action figure had the arm circumference of twelve inches in the 1970’s; today the arm has a circumference of 26.6inches. In addition, other action figures have greatened in size and muscle index, even the Star Wars action figures! In contrast, women with full figures were seen as attractive. Marilyn Monroe was a size twelve. Today eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulimia, have flooded our nation. Girls everywhere are trying to be the ideal size two. The image of men being big and muscular and women small and petite has a huge effect on Guyland.…

Appearance and presentation has involved itself in society too much. If certain people in society don't like an appearance or a first impression on specific people, then that person usually is not spoken to or acknowledged too often. It's because too many people in modern life don't look at the inside of a human being; they look at the outside. The outside of a…

Has time changed over several years or do we still think the same? Are imperfections worse on the physical being of a person or the inner soul? Physical attributes were as much important hundreds of years as now. Becoming obsessed and uncomfortable with the way one looks has given scientist a way to mold perfection. Is it worse changing to please ourselves because we need to or doing it to please our significant other because he has become so consumed with perfection, vanity and defects? How is it that one criticizes others small imperfections and not notice how they themselves look and how "the hand of nature" has not been so generous to them either. Inner beauty, is not seen but felt; perfection is not the same…

Everyone only talks about the pressure that’s put on women, but the media also puts a lot of pressure on the appearance for men. We as men are changing our looks through plastic surgery, steroids, and getting liposuction. Men feel this pressure to look good from the general media. Men are also feeling more pressure from women more than usual. A woman’s first judgment on a man is from their appearance. I have always been taught that the first impression is the most important one. If comes off as the not approachable that slims down the chance of talking to that girl. Men are held to a standard of what a perfect man should look like.…

I agree that the dominant form of masculinity and femininity are changing, however, this change has been going on for several generations now. Women are becoming the breadwinners while a lot of fathers are becoming stay-at-home dads. Some of the changes that come with women taking on more masculine jobs is the way that they dress. Since many jobs require respect women have gone from wearing dresses and cute hairstyles to wearing pants and cutting their hair off short to appear more dominating. On page 296 in our book the author points out that our society today actually promotes “tough femininity” as a lot of today’s actresses are seen taking on the more masculine…

Concern with body image is generally more common with women than it is with men. Women usually are more critical of their looks than men are. However, in recent years men have become more concerned with their body image, significantly narrowing the gap between the two genders. A poor body image often accompanies a feeling of being overweight, especially with women. Men, on the other hand, want to be more muscular to look like all these hot male models. Men seem to think that with…

In the article “Here Come The Mirror Man” by Mark Simpson, he describes the increase popularity of metrosexuality. I am going to write about reason why Simpson say men are so into their appearance, how Simpson article is still relevant in this modern day and the changes that have occur since Simpson wrote the article in the nineties. The article talks about how traditionally, men never used to care much about their appearance. All they spent their money on were beers, fags, and an occasional durex. But in this modern day, most men are more into their appearance by taking very good care of themselves to maintain a perfect complexion, neatly shaving, precisely styling their hair and purchasing expensive clothes and accessories. Simpson also states that metrosexual men are not always gay. They can also be straight men who are self-conscious about how they look.…
